Starting the second week of school, we will begin taking spelling tests. We will be using one spelling list the entire year. This is when he/she needs to understand the importance of reading and how it impacts their daily tasks. By the end of the year, your child must be able to read 70 -90 words per minute. In order to do so, each child must read a minimum of 20 minutes per day. If he/she struggles to read, it is okay for you, or a sibling, to read to him/her. As the year progresses, he/she should begin reading more independently and able to effectively comprehend and answer questions.

The readers will be highlighting the spelling pattern we are working on throughout the week. I recommend that your child practice reading the stories multiple times at home to reinforce fluency. These books are very important and should be read to someone each night.

Please make sure that shoulders are covered at all times. 

Comfortable shoes/sneakers are recommended so that children are able to run and play during recess and P.E..
