The short story “Girl” is a list of “womanly” chores and duties that the narrator, a mother, expects her daughter to do. The mother is concerned that her daughter is bound to become a “slut” because she is presumably not a very lady-like girl. It is clear that the mother comes from a time period much different than her daughter’s, where the woman of the family tends to the house while the man of the family brings home the money.

“The Story of an Hour” tells a story about a woman who has just found out that the train her husband was supposed to be on had crashed. The main character, Louise, is informed of her husband’s demise by her sister, Josephine. Josephine must be cautious in telling her sister of her husband’s death because her sister has heart disease, and Josephine doesn’t want her to have a heart attack.

I chose this quote because it is similar to how Mrs. Wright was feeling. She was very lonely in her own home, even being married.

"The truth will set you free"

I chose this quote because this is kind of the moral of the story. Nora is trapped by her lie to her husband. She will do anything to make sure he does not find out. But once he eventually does find out the truth she is free from a marriage she is unhappy in.
