In this session we went learnt things like the purpose of log lines and how to write them, 3 act structures and their function in story development and the writing of a synopsis. we also thought about characters and genre, what they are, their importance to a film and also what we wanted for our film. before coming up with a script after deciding the genre and plot it is important to build strong characters thinking about a few points :

• What is important to them?
• Are they integral to the main plot or
are they more of a supporting
character?
• What is special about them?
• How do you want the
reader/audience to connect and react
to them?
• How do they interact with the world
and what does that say about them as
a person?

when deciding a plot and genre there are many things to consider as these will decide the trajectory of your story/film.

we decided (using the lists on blackboard) to go with:

a tragedy

a whydunnit/monster in the house

human vs human

and our genre being thriller with rom com elements/factors.

SCRIPTWRITING

an introduction to writing a script was very insightful into todays session. we learnt how to use fade in and how to format a script. there were a few key take a way's from this session in regards to writing:

1 page of script = 1
minute of film time. Therefore a 3-5-
minute film should only be 3-5 pages
long!
• Start on action
• Show don’t tell
• Keep dialogue to a minimum

use the three act structure (beginning, middle and end)

this week we had two group meetings to brainstorm ideas and script write which was very productive as we got our script done and began pre production work.

Today we began delving into the roles of each member needed in our production crew, it was decided that I am doing sound but because I have already done this on a previous project that I will also do lighting so I can do something new and we are also one crew member down in our group. To start with today we went into the role of the director (Charlie). His responsibilities in our group will be to

do a marked up script

the statement of intent

produce mood boards for the project.

when on set his job will be to ultimately make the final decisions that match up with his directorial visions.

we also looked at the producers role (Kaitlyn) pre production wise it is her responsibility to :

-make sure all equipment is booked out

check location (audit) and gain necessary --filming permissions/permits (paperwork)

-risk assessments

-actor consent forms

-shooting schedules

-script breakdown

all these elements need to be completed prior to production.

All pre production is almost completed as next week we are scheduled to have a production meeting to discuss scheduling for filming.

our projects treatment package is completed.

the second session of this week was sound design which was especially important for me as this is my role.

Synopsis

Cindy is hopelessly in love. Michael... not so much.

On the benches outside her University Student's Union, Cindy eagerly texts Michael, pouring her heart out, while he responds with indifference-polite but distant.

When texts aren't enough, she takes matters into her own hands, standing outside his flat, peering through the window, imagining a love story he never agreed to. Inside, Michael goes about his life, unaware that Cindy is closer than he thinks.

A split screen reveals their vastly different realities-Cindy, filled with romantic hope, and Michael, increasingly unsettled. Then, an opportunity presents itself: Cindy sneaks into his building, slipping through the door behind another tenant.

Michael remains oblivious as Cindy watches him from the shadows. And then, all of a sudden, they lock eyes

In a flash, Cindy's mind spirals into a dreamlike montage: a cheesy romcom fantasy of their perfect life together, set to Happy Together (The Turtles). But when reality snaps back, Michael is trapped, cornered by her delusion.

The film ends on his terrified face-because love, when one-sided, can be the scariest thing of all.

The film explores the thin line between love and obsession and questions the consequences of unchecked emotions and the complexity of human connection.

LOGLINE

A hopelessly lovestruck student pursues an uninterested man. When she takes the obsession to new heights, it hits a bit close to home.

Todays session involved mostly getting all of our pre production tasks/ documents in order - what has been done + what is yet to be completed ahead of our group meeting on Friday. this week we met twice , one to decide/ finalize our shooting schedule and who would be acting in our film and a second time to complete test shoots ahead of filming day(s). we chose a few key frames from our story board to test lighting etc. , one we particularly focused on was shots of phones and the silhouette as these are tricky to get right and look good on camera. this was very useful to see what looked good and use the equipment with out the stress of filming a final cut/film

day 1 of filming got off to a slow start, there were a few teething issues with getting the bathroom as we had some equipment issues we had to resolve and we were also tight on space in our location which cut down our lighting/camera angle options. Because of this we did not get what we planned filmed on that day so we had to re think/ re-plan what was being filmed for the rest of that session and what would be done on day two. It was decided to split the shadow shot and continue to film that and film the end scene on day two as these are both quite technically tricky shots to film, rethinking the shedule and splittling the scenes more evenly took the strain off which meant we were able to work better. overall it was a good productive filming day.
