         <description><![CDATA[<div>Cornell note taking seems to be inconsistent. Some students employ it daily, some attempt to take notes daily, while others don't actually understand the concept. This is a great tool, but at this time, I don't think that there is a consistent approach school-wide.&nbsp;<br><br>Collaborative practices are more than just grouping students. Perhaps a professional development that discusses how to build groups, how to facilitate groups, and how to monitor progress would be beneficial.&nbsp;<br><br>In general, planning must be purposeful. Lessons slapped together at the last minute typically fail. Students can tell when a teacher is prepared. It matters.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Guidance: Inconsistency with holding students' accountable to <strong>USE OF ORGANIZATIONAL TOOLS</strong> (e.g. binder, planner, learning log).  Solution: Create an effective monitoring system of usage of  these tools (e.g. part of grade, school-wide organization grading instrument/percentage)<br><br>Group 1: <strong>FOCUSED-NOTES</strong>: There are discrepancies in our expectations. We should hold each other and students accountable. <br>Students do not know HOW to use notes or resources. We should teach them. and monitor their learning and usage of tools.<br><br>Group 2: <strong>COLLABORATION</strong><br>There must be a clear purpose when asking students to collaborate. Collaboration is not simply grouping students together. <br>We should educate our colleagues about effective and meaningful collaborative groupings.<br><br>Students should be taught how to take on leadership role within the collaborative groups.<br><br>Group 3: <strong>HIGHER ORDER THINKING (HOT) QUESTIONS (RIGOR)</strong><br>Provide PD to our colleagues to help them familiarize themselves with formulating higher order thinking (HOT) questions and probing students to deepen knowledge and understand of concepts. <br><br>Our Colleagues should provide adequate wait time so students can formulate and/or process HOT (higher order thinking) questions.<br><br>Deepen knowledge by asking more HOT questions as opposed to seeking correct answer. Often we move on when the correct answer is provided (e.g. technology such as Kahoot, Quizlet Live)  <br><br>PLCS - Utilize them to increase rigor (e.g. LOT vs HOT questions)<br><br>Group 4: College-Going Culture<br>Going beyond simply wearing college shirt by embedding  college-Talk into our instructional practices on Friday (5 minutes quick writes).<br><br></div>]]></description>

These templates would be handed out at the beginning of term so that students could set and monitor goals throughout the term. They can then bring that home and compare/discuss both together.</div>]]></description>
