Acting

We had a lesson with Colin about homelessness and the importance of it. We went round in a circle saying one word each we would associate with homelessness. We then did some hot seating and Colin would ask questions about how they became homeless and what they planed on doing about the situation they were in. We then got into groups and worked with a script. Two people would work with the script the others would work with the ensemble at the end. The feedback we got was that we had good ideas with the ensemble but to be more confident with it and Amirah an Sarah played their characters well.

Ballet

We started working on a new contemporary piece for our variety show coming up in February to the song 'The way You Make Me Feel' by Michael Jackson. The footwork we learnt was echappe releve. This particular footwork I found really difficult. With this foot work we have to slide our feet rather then jump into the movement. The feedback we were given was to keep our head and eyes up and to slide the feet. To improve my footwork I'll keep practicing in front of the mirror with other people and exchange feedback to help each other improve.

Musical Theatre

We started learning a rock 'n' roll number to the song 'Jailhouse Rock' by Elvis Presley. This is a partner dance and I'm working with Felix. We started the beginning where we all run in with high knees and then some footwork and Elvis knees. I used to do rock 'n' roll out of college so I found this quite easy but most people struggled with the footwork so I helped them learn it. After the footwork and Elvis knees we have a lift where the guys and girls have to go back to back, then the girls would jump on the guys back with straight legs pointing up to the ceiling and then kick our legs. Felix and I find that bit difficult because I find it hard to stay on his back and it hurts my back. Everyone seems to enjoy this dance and we all put a lot of energy into it. Feedback we were all given was to work on our timing for the lift and the footwork.

Personal Enhancement

We started working on our Shakespeare pieces some did acting the rest of us did transitions after each acting scene. I was in a group with Sophie, Jamielee and Neha. We looked for music and we went through so many different pieces of music until I found a trap version of pure imagination that we all loved. We added a couple of lifts in it and then once we had finished we showed Louise and she said she really liked it and loved the music choice. Feedback we got was to work on using all the space.

Ballet

We continued working on our ballet number and practiced the part we already know. I keep practicing the walks we do to enter because I find them really difficult. We learnt new footwork today called pas de boree which is where we step behind then to the side then to the front. We then repeat it in the other direction. We also learnt petit jete which is where you spring from leg to leg. it's quite difficult but not so bad once you've got the hang of it. A lot of the footwork we do in ballet is difficult because it's quite uncomfortable and sometimes hard to balance. Our feedback was to keep practicing in front of the mirror and to keep helping one another.

Musical Theatre

We carried on with learning the Jailhouse rock dance. The next part we learnt was the part after the back lift. we face our partners and touch right palm to palm. we then travel forward swapping hands as we do so and then run back. We learnt chasses where we hold hands chasses then turn whilst holding hands. It was hard getting the coordination right. Feedback was to remember it and to help each other.

Personal Enhancement

We went over all our dances and corrected things we couldn't do or that were going wrong and helped each other with them. Working together to make sure we all knew exactly what we were doing. We also taught Sophie most of the 'I put a spell on you' dance and we also added Lisa into the dance. I put a spell on you is my favourite dance we've done so far. It's my kind of dance and I love the choreography.

Shakespeare

We went over our dance transitions and showed the makeup artists. we also told the makeup artists how we wanted our makeup. We all decided on having different coloured eye shadow. I'd have silver/White, Neha will have pink/red, Sophie will have orange and Jamielee will have blue. We also chose different shapes for each other like Jamielee is clouds, sophie is stars, neha is hearts and I am diamonds. These colours and shapes are to do help show the audience that we're fairies as well as our movements in our motif.

Singing

we started putting together a singing piece with Dave to the song 'You will be found'. We'd already gone through the song last week but this week we went over it again and assigned solos to people who wanted one. We also put together how we're going to enter the stage and one by one. Feedback was to learn the lyrics and remember what number we are to come on.

Ballet

In ballet we finished the dance to the way you make me feel. So now we have time to focus on getting the movements right and working on things we need to work on individually without missing out on anything. We filmed it so we could watch what we have done well and look at what we can do to improve. Personally I'm struggling with the echappe releve's it's hard to get the footwork so to improve I'm going to keep going over it with other people and ask the people that do know it to help me.

Musical Theatre

In musical theatre we finished our jailhouse rock dance. I find this dance the best because we're able to put our energy into it as it's an energetic dance. All we need to do with this dance now is keep going over it so its in our heads and keep going over the timing so we've got it spot on.

Singing

We continued with the song You Will Be Found and began to stage it. We started by having Drew start on stage as she sings the opening part then followed by Precious who sings the next part. Then Felix comes followed by Lucas. Jamielee does the next part and then a duet with Hannah and David after the solos and the duet everyone else starts to walk in and stand in different places facing different directions. We then walked in diagonal pathways and then ended up in a clump in the middle. We all walk off 1s go first then 2s then 3s the last person on stage is Ellie as he sings the last line.

Jazz

We learnt the last of welcome to the jungle the most difficult part for me is after we have to crawl across the floor and we have to go into a press-up position jump int cross legs still in press-up and then turn and get up. I'm going to keep practicing at home aswell.

This week we just went over everything we've done just rehearsing the show and getting used to the order of everything and getting used to our cues and knowing when we should be in the wings after each performance. Getting used to the quick costume changes and hair changes. We spent this week going over each performance. I mainly wanted to work on our devising piece because I find that piece the hardest because I have to shout and I can't get comfortable with it so I just wanted to go over it to git familiar with it. Doing that also helped me get more into character and helped the others work on their emotions as well. We also went over our staging and improved how we get on and off stage. I also wanted to go over the jailhouse rock lift with Felix because I find that particular part in the dance really hard because it hurts my back when we do it. I think doing the dress and tech runs really help us all to get familiar with everything before we put it on the stage. That way it's just the lighting cues we need. Also the dress rehearsals help us know how long we have to change before the next number. The only thing we have to keep on top of is the costume changes because for some of them we don't have very long to get changed for.

Monday

Day before show day we got everything organised ran through everything rehearsed everything that needed to be touched up on and improved things we needed to improve on. We made sure all the costumes were their and counted them to make sure there was enough for everyone. First we did a run through of all the pieces and then we did a proper dress rehearsal without stopping and then did feedback at the end and went through the things Mandy wanted to look at again and improve on it. We then put all prop and costumes away made sure we had everything and put them in the black box for the van to pick them u the morning of the show.

SHOW DAY!

Finally the day of the show! Everyone has been preparing for this day and we've all worked so hard for this day. We get the venue and we organise our costumes in the order we will need them. We then had a dress run of eveything and a tech and lighting run to sort out their cues. We then had a little break before the show to make sure we had all of our costumes and to put on our make up a to rehearse anything we wanted to go over.

Personally I think the show went really well there were things I could've done better for example I noticed at times I was concentrating on getting the moves right and wasn't thinking about my facial expressions and it probably showed. I also need to work on my confidence being on stage.

The song was featured in the movie of the same name. The film is famous for the scene where Elvis performs that song in an elaborate dance number taking place in prison.

Contemporary Ballet is a form of dance which incorporates elements of both classical ballet and modern dance. It takes its technique and use of pointe work from classical ballet, however, it allows a greater range of movement that does not support the strict body lines that are traditional in any of the methods of classical ballet technique. Many of its concepts come from the ideas of modern dance, including floor choreography and turning in of the legs.

The most significant difference between classical and contemporary ballet, is the basic way the body moves. Classical is every structured with emphasis on lifting up, poise and dramatic storytelling through fictional fables. Contemporary developed as a breakaway from rigidity of classical, the concept being free and earth bound.

Midsummer Night's Dream is a play written by William Shakespeare, it's a comedy/fantasy play. The play has no clear protagonist because there are so many interwoven stories and sets of characters. Puck is typically seen as the main character in the play because his actions affect each of the play’s separate stories. Act III, scene ii. With their relationships cast into chaos by the misapplication of Puck’s love potion, the four young Athenian characters argue. Hermia challenges Helena to a fight, while Demetrius and Lysander nearly come to blows over Helena.
