Did you solve any problems today: During the half term I struggled to login into navigate and so I was unable to complete it. However because I was in college I was automatically logged into my account on navigate and so I was write about my work experience.

What did you do today: Today in James's class we had watched a clip of the Gruffalos child so that we could listen how the narrator tells the story so we could learn what makes it successful and interesting for a child. We had then been given the task to go into groups 4 and find a children's book and plan out how we would make it into a play and where in the play would we place songs.

Describe what progress you made today: Today we had planned out our choice of story (Red Riding Hood) into 4 sections and we decided to place 2 songs within our play, one at the beginning for Red Riding Hood and the other for the Wolf. At the end of the lesson we were given to work to create one song for a character of our choice.

What did you do: Today in Darren's class we had been told to go into groups of 6 and then find objects that are in our classroom, after we had done this we were given the instruction, using the  objects we found we had to create a game. We had a flag, a bin lid, a hat, a pen lid and an umbrella. We placed the flag, hat, bin lid and umbrella in different parts of our classroom. Each of these items had a certain amount of points and using the pen lid you would throw into one of these objects the further the object was from you the more points it had, and we had made a punishment with this game and the punishment was whoever had the least amount of points the loser would have to complete a dare. After doing this we had then been given a children's poem which was called the Jabberwocky the poem was about a terrifying monster who caused trouble to some people in a village and there was this boy from the village who decided to kill the Jabberwocky after doing this he was celebrated for killing the monster. We had to then write what we felt about the poem and then perform it very dramatically. Personally I felt nothing for the poem because it was a typical child story nothing special and performed by saying my view on the poem. After we were placed into small groups where we all had to perform our view on the Jabberwocky as a group and so we had created a small formation and we had performed it. With the same group we had to then actually create the Jabberwocky and so using four people in our group to physically create the Jabberwocky and using noise.

How did you respond to feedback/ideas: When it came to creating the formation we had multiple ideas for what we could do, and so we had ultimately chose to combine each others ideas. The people who were in my group were, Gorgia, Jake, Nilanz, Elishea and Grace and so we combined my idea of having a formation of a circle, Elishea's idea of walking in a line in pairs and Jake idea of holding out our poems as if they were like scrolls.

Did you solve any problems and how did you solve them: One problem we had faced was working as a group as it was sometimes really hard to get everyone to concentrate and to get everyone working on the task however me and Elishea had told the group we had to work otherwise we would have nothing to perform. And so we started working hard for the last 40 minutes.

What did you do today: In Darren's class we were put into groups, my group being the smallest with seven people, me, Elishea, Dylan, Grace, Rebecca, Micheal and Marien. Each group was then given a fairy tale story and our group was given Rumpelstiltskin, however before we could start working on it Darren wanted to ensure that the groups we were put in would actually work and so he had taken a few Roahl Dahl books and went up to each group and made us choose a book, we had taken The Twits, we then had to choose a section from the book that we would turn into a small play. The part we had chosen was called "Bird Pie Night" in this section the Twits had got some monkeys from Africa in hopes of training them so they could become the best monkey circus  in England, while the Twits are feeding the monkeys some birds fly into their garden and Mr Twit gets the idea of catching the birds and making bird pie however they fail at doing this and end up scaring off the birds. We had to change a lot of what was in the book as the majority of that section was narration and so we thought of creating two characters who could through conversation tell the audience what is happening, because this section had a lot of things to do with animals we created to snake characters who would make snarky comments about the Twits and what they were doing.

Did you solve any problems:
The biggest problem we had was how we were going to replace the narration however it didn't take too long to come up with a solution as we decided that creating two new characters was the best way going about it.

What did you do today: In James’s class we had to go back into the groups we had got to choose what fairy tale we wanted to do and create a song for a specific character in the story. James checked if everyone had done the song task, he made sure at least one person from each group had attempted the work. I was chosen and I had decided to do a song for the wolf in Little Red Riding Hood I sang my song and I was told that I did extremely well and my other classmates had enjoyed it as well so I felt quite proud of my song. After this we had to go into our new groups continue our work on the Twits and so we carried on writing a script for it.

What did you do today: Today in Darren's class we had went to the LRC to print off the story of Rumpelstiltskin (we had performed our Twits piece on the 15th for Neil's class we had overall good feedback however one thing we had to be careful of our animal character being too loud for example our monkey characters being really loud). After printing of the story we read the story as a group as a majority of us had never heard of the story, after reading the story we had created a storyboard for Rumpelstiltskin this way we would have a clear idea of how we would set up the script of Rumpelstiltskin. Once we had this set out I had begun writing the script for Rumpelstiltskin, (I was appointed for writing the script, Elishea is in charge of editing the script and producing music as well as Grace and Michael helping with music production, Marian working with set design, Dylan and Rebecca working with any choreography for songs).

What did you do today: In Darren's class I had continued writing the script for Rumpelstiltskin, I had asked for the people in my group to write a song for Mia (the main protagonist) as I wanted everyone to have a go at writing a song and it not being only me writing the songs as I felt that would be quite unfair for the others, they struggled with creating a song however they had wrote for me one verse and a bit for the song, and from that I just finished off the song myself and continued the script. We also had a discussions on what we would need for props wise and where we would need them and how much we would be spending  for props

What problems did you come across: One problem we came across was for our beginning part we wanted to have a few villagers characters in our play who open up the play by going up to the audience and asking for money as they need to pay for the Kings tax however the children may not be willing to interact with the villager characters asking for money the children may not understand we wouldn't expect them to actually give us money and they might get afraid because they don't actually have money and so they may end up ignoring them and try to avoid any contact with them, so we possibly thought if we handed the children some plastic coins to the children before the show, possibly get their teacher to hand them out to them in their class before the show, but again the children might actually just keep the plastic coin to themselves and won't participate in the interaction.

Were there any problems that occurred: One problem that I had that affected me was that I was late today by 45 minutes due to a severe delay on the railway causing me to have to take another route which was much longer and therefore making me late, and having less time to write my script in class. What did you do today: In Stephens class we begun to think of characterisation of our characters, so we started the lesson practising different ways of walking by engaging specific parts of our body. For example Stephen would give us the instruction of trying to lead with our hip and so the way we walked is leading by our hips and we would walk forwards, backwards, constantly changing directions, we did this multiple times with different body parts. One we did this we had to create a stance for our character, after this we had to create a walk that our character and we would be told by Stephen to speed up our walks or slow it down so we could have a feel for the movement and see if it works for our character or not. Finally we had got into a circle and we walked across the circle in character.

Did you come across any problems: When I had to create my movement for my character I felt that I didn't have the correct movement for my character as I felt that I made my character too grand as I saw my character as quite childish and very young at heart and I felt that I made my characters walk to serious and magnificent.

How did you solve this problem: I had tried different ways I could express my characters walk and I finally achieved my characters walk.

What did you today: I had given the printed script to my group, we decided to read the script and edit any lines they wanted to change or get rid of lines.

Did you solve any problems: When I was writing the script I wanted to try and modernise it because I remember when I was in primary school and I saw pantomimes they would sometimes place things that were "relatable" or popular with our age group and whenever it came up we would go crazy and it was very enjoyable, so I tried to include those in the script. However, I felt uneasy with the modernisation, I felt that it was outplace as we were basing our performance in medieval times, trying to combine the two seemed wrong.

What did you do today: Today we had begun to rehearse the very first few scenes of our play.

Did you solve any problems: We were missing Marian in our first few rehearsals but we had tried to learn each others lines in the group, especially as we had a similar situation happen before this so prevent this we had learnt each others lines. We had performed one of our rehearsals to Neil and one of the biggest problems was dead time, when we started our scene with Dylan walking in to get Grace there was a lot of dead of time and another example Grace and Dylan waiting for Micheal. Which generally isn't good to have in performance, but especially not in child theatre as children get easily distracted and that amount of dead time can make a child disinterested. Another problem was volume a lot of the time we didn't speak loud enough in our rehearsals.

Did you solve your problem: We easily were able to fix our volume problem as whenever we weren't speaking loud enough to be heard we pick it out while rehearsing. For our problem of dead time what we had to do was shorten the time of Dylan's and Micheal's entrance, so as soon as Grace is left on her own Dylan has to quickly enter in, we had also decreased the walking journey to the "castle" as that also brought us a lot of dead time. 

How did you respond to feedback: I believe we responded very well with Neal's feedback as we considered that our dead time would cause a huge problem, he had also picked up on Dylan when he enters saying "Hi" and it was a bit strange as he was saying it as he was walking towards Grace, instead Dylan should grab Grace and then introduce himself to Grace. One other thing Neal had pointed out the use of levels, when Elishea and Rebecca enter towards to Grace and there on ground level which would be a problem for audiences sitting at the back because they would not be able to see them perform so what we decided to change is that for the actual performances we would have a chair for Grace to sit on and Elishea and Rebecca would be standing.

What did you do today: Today in Stephens lesson we had begun discuss what we wanted to work on in terms of movement.

Describe what progress you made: Overall what we wanted to focus on was the movement of Rumpelstiltskin, as both me and Dylan had a different vision for how Rumpelstiltskin would be portrayed, as Elishea was going more for a creepy sinister vibe, while me and Dylan pictured Rumpelstiltskin as more happy go lucky almost like leprechaun however we still wanted to keep that unnerving vibe from Rumpelstiltskin, we took our reference from the Rumpelstiltskin in Shrek as he comes initially as quite friendly however when Rumpelstiltskin makes his deal he becomes more sinister. So we helped Elishea with trying to achieve the physicality.

Did you solve any problems: One of the biggest problems we had was trying to get Elishea to understand our vision. It was difficult for Elishea to do a movement where she can a mixture of both creepy and cheerful.

What did you do today: Today we had rehearsed and performed in Stephens class our first few scenes , others groups in our class had also done same thing.

Were there any problems: After watching the other groups perform I realised that our performance was not suitable for children as our script was too conversational and for a children audience it could be difficult for them because it would rely on them having to listen for a long period of time which means they could possibly miss some information if they couldn't hear us or possibly they may become disinterested by the amount of dialogue that occurs, another problem was because our story was being told through dialogue it prolonged our story to unnecessary timing. That is when I realised I had rewrite the script, i noticed that in each of the other groups that they had a narrator which helped to set the story and clear any confusion that may have come up. So I decided to get rid of the character of "Messenger" because that character started conversations and would tell the story through the dialogue and I added humour to the conversation so it would be more entertaining however I realised this would be more interesting for children who are late years in primary of early high school not for 6 or lower. So I decided that would put in a narrator instead , we had initially had wanted a narrator however we thought that by having a narrator it would be boring because we wanted incorporate a defined character, possibly adding an animalistic quality to it as we didn't want a character that just told a story we wanted that character that seemed part of the play and not just a story teller so in the end we never added one. Until now, so what I did I had read the story of Rumpelstiltskin and while I was looking at the dialogues that is happening and I created lines for the narrator, so at the beginning of each scene there would be narration to explain what is happening so if there were any children that were confused by previous scene's, the narration should be able to clear up any confusion.

How did you solve the problem: When I had first told my group that I would have to change the script, they were quite upset by this, not necessarily because I had to change the script but because they didn't think that I would be able to finish the script fast enough and for them to learn there lines before our performance. What did you today: Today in class we had begun rehearsing with the new script that I sent over to them on Saturday, they were happy with the new improvements. We had also begun to try and stage our set.

Describe what progress you had made: Using bamboo sticks we had created a pathway for us to walk in and get used to walking in this path for the actual performance

Did you solve any problems: One problem we had was when we created the pathways for us to walk in were too small at points and there are many points in our play where two people will have to walk on and this small pathway caused one person in the pair to walk behind the person who was in front and this caused a blocking problem and so to fix this issue we had to enlarge the walking path so that would no longer have problem.

What do you need to next time: We need to ensure that we have proper blocking

What did you today: Today we had performed in front of the class and Stephen, we had then received feedback.

Were there any problems: We were missing Grace today and we had a problem of low energy during the performance both me and Elishea had replace Grace, the reason we had tow people play her was because there were moments when Elishea would be performing and Grace was onstage and there were moments when I was Rumpelstiltskin and Grace was with me onstage. Because this was a weird/new situation for us it caused a lot confusion as we weren't use to this and this caused our group to have low morale, therefore our performance was not very good.

How did you solve this problem: After we performed we received feedback from everyone we were told what we could improve and what we did well on. We were also given the chance to voice ourselves as a group.
