In my opinion, there are a few things wrong with society today. For starters, I believe that today's society is too materialistic. He wants to be different. To me, this quote means that individuality is something to be valued highly. When I lived in Toms River, I got involved with the wrong group of people. They would often do things that I didn't feel comfortable with. I heard a different drummer in these situations because I didn't want to do anything that would jeopardize my future. I knew it wouldn't be smart to do the things my "friends" were doing, so I didn't. The "friends" didn't react how I expected them to. Surprisingly, they were okay with my choices. Throughout the entirety of this movie, the main character, Leslie Burk, displays actions that are totally out of the norm. The reason I chose this quote is simply for the fact that even though it's short and sweet, it packs a lot of meaning. The woods are deep,as is your past. Your youth is in those woods, those deep, menacing woods. And as some people are afraid to enter the woods, some people are also afraid to venture into their past. There are many people who are convinced that the past is behind them, so they don't ever wish to explore it. And many of them have effected my life in ways I never thought possible. But if there is one decision that stands out above the rest, it would be the way I decided to deal with the passing of my dad. I always wished I would have handled it better than I did. Days went by where all I would do is lay in my room and cry. I wouldn't even eat anything. Days turned to weeks and still nothing changed. I just wanted to cry until I couldn't cry anymore. I seemed to think that if I cried enough, maybe he would come back. I couldn't deal with the fact that I would never see my dad again. My family worried for me, but at the same time, understood. I wish that instead of crying my life away, I would have taken the time to help the rest of my family cope with what had happened. My mom, and my sisters especially. I wish I would have realized that there was nothing I could do to change what had happened. If I could change this version of the past, I would do it in a heartbeat.
