Sources used: Nypost.com and gizmodo.com

Topic: Hitler Youth Camps

The purpose of the Hitler Youth camps were to essentially turn children into Nazis. They wanted to plant the ideas of the Nazi regime and have more soldiers to help them in the future. Those who were involved are Hitler and Fritz Khun. Hitler was a symbol of pride and leadership to those at the camps. Fritz Khun was the leader of the camps and was also made to be looked up to. He had even be addressed as the "American Fuehrer." The significance of the event was that Khun and Hitler wanted to bring Anti-Semitism and Nazi facism to the United States. The impact of these camps brought about 25,000 members nationwide. Meaning that they were unsuccessful of completely converting America. You could compare these events to modern day boyscouts. They wore uniforms but instead of an acorn symbol they were swastikas. The youth trained with rifles and even marched and saluted like Hitler.

Adolf Hitler had followers in the National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP) and under his leadership they developed their own ideology, they called it National Socialism. It was fuelled by the deep sense of humiliation experienced by Germans by the terms imposed on their country in the aftermath of the First World War. Nazi ideology was developed by nationalists whose only interest was the future of Germany, and it held the nation over the individual. Nazism revolved around an all powerful leader, a strong state, intense nationalism, a focus on militarism and military strength, and purity of race. The impact it had on the state apparatus was that Germans benefitted from it and everyone lost out, and it ruled through state terror and the loss of personal freedom. The modern day connection to Nazism, and its rule, is Isis. Nazism was developed because of humiliation experienced by Germany after World War 1, Isis is driven by the humiliation felt by so many Muslims after a century of meddling by Western powers in the Middle East. They persuade people that the power of religion is a symbol of justice and purity, and you cant unpersuade people who are already persuaded by what they see in the world around them.

Topic: anti-Semitism

People: Early Christians and Jewish people
The early Christians and people of polytheistic religions persecuted Jews for multiple reasons. During the 3rd century BCE Jews were persecuted for believing in only one god. Throughout the Reniassance period and the Middle Ages then became easy targets for the crusaders who would loot, rape, and massacre the Jewish people.

Significance: Many of the ways the Jewish people were persecuted before WWII were reiterated by Hitler and the Nazis during the war. They reprinted a 1545 article by Martin Luther called "The Jews and Their Lies" saying that Jews were out fro Christian blood and urged the slaying of Jews. This reprinting and reusing of old anti-Judaism ways led to the transition from anti-Judaism (attacks motivated because of the Jews' refusal to accept Christianity) to anti-Semitism (hatred of Jews as a so-called race that would contaminate the purity of another race).

Impact: The rise of anti-Semitism mainly led to the Holocaust. Because people were hating them as a race there were easier ways to discriminate and persecute them. Jews couldn't marry Christians, hold positions in government, or even appear in court as a witness or on the jury. The term itself was coined by Wilhelm Marr, a German politician, in 1873. He wrote an article defining the term and whose thesis was how the Jews were conspiring to run the state and should't even be considered citizens. This thought led to the idea of a pure Aryan race for Germany, to get rid of what was thought of as corruption and "purify" the country again.

Modern Connection: Even today people are being persecuted for believing in something different. The idea of a mass murder and torture of a race is being spread in today's world.

http://archive.adl.org/hate-patrol/antisemitism.html#.Vx2XNaukLw4

https://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10005175

https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/antisem.html

Topic: Adolf Hitler during WW2

Adolf Hitler and the Nazis convinced millions of German citizens that the cause of Germany's suffering and the reason they lost WW1 was because of the Jewish people living in Germany. Adolf Hitler created over 40,000 concentration camps and other incarceration sites that imprisoned Jews and anyone who was a threat to the Aryan supremacy. Over 6 million Jewish people and other minorities groups died in the holocaust. His surprise attack on Polan in 1939 started World War 2.

Hermann Goring, Adolf Hitler right hand man, was the second-most powerful man in Germany. He became commander and chief of the Luftwaffe and director of the four year plan in the German economy.

Adolf Hitlers significance was that he was one of the most powerful and infamous dictators of the 20th century. Responsible for the genocide of over 6 millions jewish people and starting a world war, which resulted in the death of over 60 million people.

The impact that Adolf Hitler created will never be forgotten now will it ever be forgiven. He destroyed the German government by making all war efforts go through him and no laws were looked by legislative and other political parties were eliminated. Hitler spread fear among the jewish community. He rebuilt Germany economy to gain the support of the Germany people.

The modern day connection can be made by comparing Donald Trump to Hitler.

The treaty of Versailles, was a peace treaty that officially ended world war one, June 28, 1919.
This treaty was negotiated between the allied powers which were Britain,France, Russia, Italy and the U.S. Each representative from the allied countries wanted to make sure Germany paid for starting the war, some such as Clemenceau from France wanted revenge. Germany was forced to sign the treaty taking full blame for the war, this was known as the War guilt clause.
This treaty officially ended the war and helped establish the league of nations, an organization that was meant to fix or prevent war. Ironically the president of the United states, Woodrow Wilson is the one who wanted the league, yet America is one of the nations that did not join it.
The effect this treaty had on Germany was a great one. Germanys economy was crippled since they had to pay off the tremendous war debts, which was over 4 billion dollars. It went even higher as the allied countries put a price on every body, and even cows lost during the war. They were no longer able to make alliances, and could not have a navy, air force, or army larger than 100,000 people. The bitterness the germans now had led to the rise of Hitler, who promised to restore Germany.
