It took my 5th grade students awhile to understand the water crisis, but once they did, they were inspired to help. So, we have been raising money all year to build a well in South Sudan through the "Water for South Sudan Foundations" which was created by who the book was written about. 

My heart has been so full watching my students understand empathy and our community support us. I am looking for new projects for next year that coincide with another powerful book; SO, if anyone knows of any books that align with any of the Global Goals, I am looking!

Two of my passions are literacy and service to those in need. I traveled to Bloemfontein, South Africa recently and I was amazed at the schools I visited. With so little, they still saw education as vital. The focus was not on the material but on the experience of learning.
