Growing up, I was always a creative person. I still am. With technology and the opportunity to experience Western culture, my upbringing and current life are completely different from those of my grandparents. My grandparents had many siblings and grew up running around on their farms. They were not the wealthiest people, but they found happiness in themselves and those around them - not memes on TikTok. I, however, find it incredible to think about life without technology. For example, I am writing this assignment on Padlet. My grandparents never even knew Padlet or touch screens would become a thing. As for the specifics of transitioning into early adulthood, I am going to college and still figuring myself out - especially when it comes to love, my career, and the place I want to settle down in. I still have trouble knowing whether or not I want to start a family because of our society. My grandparents, however, started having children very young and lived a simple life. Living in the provinces of the Philippines, there was not much to do when you were younger besides get married and have a lot of children. Another minuscule detail is that my grandpa had smoked cigarettes. More specifically, at least a pack a day. He was young and continued doing this until he passed away. Of course, I do not smoke cigarettes or anything similar, but the difference between the society my grandparents lived in compared to now is outstanding. No one my age smokes cigarettes, they either vape or smoke other things. Though very comparable, they of course are two different things. My grandparents were not able to educate themselves online. They had to go to class and pay close attention while they wrote everything down with paper and pen while I am writing this assignment on my computer.
