Definitely trying the breakout box! It's something I've been wanting to try and this gave a lot of helpful tips. I also want to try "say something" to help with student accountability.
I still have questions about finding the right strategy for my students, especially when I'm new and don't know them as well. I also am going back to collaborating with the freshman class for our Isearch papers. I saw the excitement. I realize that I need to push my peers to collaborate more with each other. It creates community and an authentic learning environment.

 I would like to do the project where we make books for a younger grade. 
I think I might use that idea of a reading illustration in the beginning of the year to take the temperature of the students' motivations. 

Do other teachers in your district collaborate like you two? 
Does your district limit student to student contact outside of the district.

Have you ever tried Blogs. I did them this year, but my district did not want the kids to share them with each other. It was frustrating - any suggestions?
