Dyslexia Screening and Assessment

At Priors Field, we recognise dyslexia and are committed to embedding inclusive practices across all classrooms to support children with a range of learning needs. Many of the strategies we use benefit all children, including those who may present with dyslexic traits, whether or not they have a formal diagnosis.

As part of our approach, we may use a screening checklist from the British Dyslexia Association to help identify areas where a child may need additional support. This can be completed in school, and we also encourage parents to complete the checklist from a home perspective. Comparing both can help build a fuller picture of your child's strengths and needs and guide us in targeting support effectively.

Some families may wish to consider pursuing a full dyslexia assessment following this screening. A formal diagnosis can sometimes help children and parents better understand learning differences and may offer further ideas for support strategies.

If families do wish to explore a full assessment, this would need to be arranged privately. While we are not able to advise on whether this is the right decision for individual families, we are happy to signpost you to the British Dyslexia Association for further information about next steps and assessment services:
https://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/services
