Elizabeth's personal traits have to do with what had happened, and what is currently going on. Elizabeth feels bad for the rabbit that they caught and had to prepare to eat. (Elizabeth 48) "Pray God. It hurt my heart to strip her, poor rabbit". Then Elizabeth was talking to Proctor and arguing over why he arrived late during the night. (Elizabeth 49) "You come so late i thought you'd be gone to Salem this Afternoon". After that Proctor and Elizabeth get into a larger argument over why she let Mary go into Salem. (Elizabeth 49) I couldn't stop her"."She frightened all my strength away".That is how i would describe Elizabeth Proctors personal traits.

Elizabeth Proctor shows a few different character traits throughout Act II of The Crucible. For example, she is quiet and reserved, as seen in the beginning of the act. She was trying to make conversation with her husband, but they were failing to address the problems they were having in their relationship, which made it uncomfortable for both of them (Miller 48). However, she does call him out on his affair with Abigail Williams, showing how she is able to stand up for herself. In the play, she says, "John, if it were not Abigail that you must go to hurt, would you falter now? I think not... John, you are not open with me" (Miller 52). Toward the end of the act, she also shows her bravery. She is accused of witchcraft when there is a needle found in Mary Warren's poppet. This was thought to be significant because Abigail had been stabbed with a needle at the dinner table and claimed that Mrs. Proctor sent her spirit to do it. While John tried to prove her innocent, she still went to court to testify, despite her innocence (Miller 71). Act II of The Crucible shows us that Elizabeth Proctor can be quiet and reserved, but can also show bravery during a difficult situation.

The most important thing that John Proctor learns about himself by the end of act two is that he was wrong to cheat on his wife, Elizabeth. One example that shows this is, "But I wilted, and, like a christian, I confessed, confessed! Some dream I had must have mistaken you for God that day." (Miller 52).That shows that he knows what he did was wrong because he confessed up to it. Also, "It is her dearest hope, John, I know it, there be a thousand names; why does she call mine? There be a certain danger in calling my name"(Miller 58). This quote shows that there is now danger for his wife, Elizabeth because, Abigail is accusing her for witchcraft because she has a grudge held against her. Elizabeth is eventually arrested for witchcraft and if John would have never had an affair with Abigail then this would have never happened and Elizabeth would have never been accused. He then learns that he has done something terribly wrong that is killing people that he loves. John proctor was wrong and learned that he was wrong for cheating on his wife Elizabeth in the play, "The Crucible"

The relationship between Elizabeth and John Proctor is falling apart at the seams. John is mostly to blame for their marital problems. John cheated on Elizabeth with Abigail. Abigail strictly remembers how John clutched her back behind his house and sweated like a stallion whenever she comes near him( Miller 21). John knew it was just to hook up, but Abigail thought he loved her. Abigail sees John looking up into her room from the window and see her very lonely (Miller 21). Elizabeth knows John cheated on her, but many other things are wrong with her relationship. Due to the fact that she knows what he did, she distrusts him. She never called him low(Miller 59). She threatened to be his only wife or no wife at all(Miller 59). John Proctor is the reason why Elizabeth can not trust him, and the reason why his marriage will never be the same.

John Proctor could of prevented his wife’s arrest but didn’t. He knew it was right for him to get everything off of his chest, but he knew he needs to save himself. John slept with Abigail in Act l and eventually Elizabeth assumed of the affair. Elizabeth fired Abigail from working in their house because she was a servant for the Proctors. From then till now, Abigail wants Elizabeth dead so she can be with John. For example, Elizabeth was brought up in court because of the use of witchcraft. Many people came to the Proctor house to suspect any evidence of the witchcraft that Elizabeth seems to be stirring up. They found a poppet, a poppet is the word for puppet from that time period. The poppet was given to her by Mary Warren. It wasn’t just any poppet but it was assumed to be a voodoo doll with a pin in the stomach. Earlier in the day before they found the poppet in the Proctor house, Abigail was having pains and pulled a needle out of her stomach. They assumed that it was Elizabeth who made this incident happen so, they took her away. John was very furious about this and knew what he had to do but couldn’t because if he goes against Abigail then Abigail can throw him under the bus too. (Miller 69-73)

Reverend Hale does not know whether Elizabeth is practicing witchcraft or not. At first he asks multiple intriguing questions that nerve Elizabeth and John such as "Twenty-six time in seventeen month, sir. I must call that rare. Will you tell me why you are so absent?"(Miller 61). As time passes and they begin to communicate more and Hale starts to believe that if they do more with the church that they will be less suspicious as he says "God keep you both; let the third child be quickly baptized, and go you without fail each Sunday into Sabbath prayer; and keep a solemn, quiet way among you. I think-"(Miller 67) before being abruptly stopped mid sentence. But his final judgment is revealed "What I have heard in her favor, I will not fear to testify in court. God help me, I cannot judge her guilty or innocent-I know not..."(Miller 74). Based on solid and conclusive evidence we can see that Hale is baffled as he does not know what to believe of the accusations on Elizabeth.

John Proctor learns by the end of act 2 that he is self-centered. For example, when Proctor had a affair with Abigail while with his wife he could have fessed up to saying that he had a affair with her so her wife would not be in this stage. He only cared about himself not Abigail nor his wife. Also, instead of Proctor being so self-centered and think before his actions Abigail would not have even mentioned Elizabeth name. Finally, proctor states, "You will not judge me more, Elizabeth. I have reason to think before I charge good fraud on Abigail, and I will think on it. Let you look to your own improvement before you go to judge your husband any more" (Miller 52). This statement from Proctor shows he is self-centered because he says to not judge him anymore but yet he had affair with a much younger girl while he was married. These are things Proctor could have done to save his wife before she got arrested. This proves that Proctor is

John Proctors wife was accused of being a witch and has a chance of being hanged, John Proctor could have saved his wife by confessing to him and Abigal's afair. John could have told Mr.Hale this to prove that Abigal was accusing her because of jealousy or because of wanting Proctor for herself. Instead John just goes through his commandments, and trying to prove his and Elizabeth's non-involvment in witch craft. This then leads to Elizabeth getting arrested and brought to court. "Do you know your commandments Elizabeth?" "And you mister?" "I--- am sure i do, sir" (Miller 63)

John and her have had more than just a friendly relationship, and Elizabeth can tell that. Proctor attempts to shy away from Abigail, but you can still hear the temptation in his words. This in turn, turns his marriage unstable. The two have engage in "activity" many times before like when he clutched her back behind his house, and how he sweats like a stallion when she is near. (Miller 21) More so,Abigail can sense that he still wants her a bit and is lonely,or that he "be sportin with her". Proctor may try to deny this, but Abigail backs it up by saying " I have a sense for heat John, and yours has drawn me to my window,I have seen you looking up,burning in your loneliness"(Miller 21).
