One of the examples of radiation that I face on a daily basis is my computer. It is a gadget used by many and is certain of helping us out in our daily lives from working on a daily basis to even palying games. Computers emit non ionizing radiation which we as humans are commonly exposed to in our daily lives. However, studies have shown that the radiation emitted by the computers can cause no harm to the foetus and it also does not associate with birth defects or miscarriage. But, while the correct usage of our computers can help us boost our productivity, it is more than common that people that use computers on a daily basis are sedentary. Thus, the users will have a grave chance of getting eye diseases and back diseases which are proven to be worse than the defects of smoking. So, in order to prevent that, we must take periodic breaks from working on the computer . For example, after a productive period of time in front of a computer, we can take a glance at the outside world and maybe even go for a jog if time is not restricted to staighten our posture and relax our eyes before getting back on to the grind!!!

One of the everyday examples of radiation in my daily life is visible light. Visible light is a form of electromagnetic radiation, as are radio waves, infrared radiation, ultraviolet radiation, X-rays and microwaves and is defined as the wavelengths that are visible to most human eye.. Visible light can be emitted from a number of sources, among them include light bulbs, candles, stars and the sun. Among the characteristics of visible light is color. Our eyes contain specialized cells, called cone cells, that act as receivers tuned to the wavelengths of visible light. Light at the lower end of the visible spectrum, having a longer wavelength, is seen as red; light in the middle of the spectrum is seen as green; and light at the upper end of the spectrum, is seen as violet. All other colors that we perceive such as are mixtures of these colors. Without the color components of visible light, people will not be able to appreciate the beauty of their surroundings neither coordinate their movements easily. Color gives people information about their world as well as beauty.

As a living basis, food is something we must have everyday and cannot be eliminated from our life. If we do not eat, we will not have enough energy supply and might die due to excessive starvation. However, food contains radiation. Therefore, the example of radiation that I faced everyday will be the food radiation.
Naturally, food emits radioactive radiation. Based on the scientific research, food can obtain radiations through three process, namely, uptake, deposition and bioaccumulation. For example, banana contains potassium. It is says that each banana can emits about 0.1 microSieverts.
However, the natural food radiation will not cause harm to human beings. The radiation emitted from food is only a very small amount. The safety level of radiation is less than 0.2 microSieverts per hour or 1752 microSieverts per year. Thus, for instance, you will only be on risk if u eat over 17520 bananas per year.
On the other hand, natural food radiation is different with food irradiation. Food irradiation refers to the usage of radiation to preserve food. Nowadays, radiation are becoming more and more popular in the food industry to preserve the freshness of food. Gamma rays are widely used to irradiate food such as frozen meat, packaged fruits, white potatoes, herbs and seasonings and so on. Irradiated food is normally labelled with the Radura logo and usually safe to consume. World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Drug Administration of U.S (FDA) and also the Centre of Disease Control (CDC) have been doing experiment for 30 years and have endorsed the safety of consuming irradiated food.
Hence, in conclusion, it can be said that food radiation cause no harm to everyone, either natural or artificial.

One of the radiation examples that i faced in my daily basis is food. Food contains a variety of different types and amounts of naturally occurring radioactive materials. Although the relatively small quantities of food in the home contain too little radioactivity for the latter to be readily detectable, bulk shipments of food have been known to set off the alarms of radiation monitors at border crossings. Well, how does radiation of food affect our lives? Consuming food contaminated with radioactive material will increase the amount of radioactivity a person is exposed to and could increase the health risks associated with exposure to radiation. The exact effect will depend on which radionuclides have been ingested and the amount. Like all radionuclides, exposure to radiation from radioactive caesium can result in a increased risk of cancer. Thus, we should start eating a plant based diet low on the food chain as it helps us reduce our exposure to radiation so we will be the picture of health! :D

One of the example of using radiation in my daily life is radiation of our body . Radiation given off by a body because of its temperature is called thermal radiation . ”All bodies not only emit such radiation but also absorb it from their surroundings. If a body is hotter than its surroundings it emits more radiation than it absorbs and tends to cool. Normally, it will come to thermal equilibrium with its surroundings, a condition in which its rates of absorption and emission of radiation are equal. The spectrum of the thermal radiation from a hot solid body is continuous, its details depending strongly on the temperature. If we were steadily to raise the temperature of such a body, we would notice two things: Higher the temperature, the more thermal radiation will be emitted. At first, the body appears dim, then it glows brightly and Higher the temperature, the shorter is the wavelength of that part of the spectrum radiating most intensity. The radiation emitted by a hot body depends not only on the temperature but also on the material of which the body is made, its shape, and the nature of its surface.

One of the example of radiation that I faced everyday in my daily life is cell phone. It is a gadget that can make and receive calls over a radiofrequency link while the user is moving within a telephone service area. Using it can make our lives more convenient and easier. However, smart phone will emit radiofrequency radiation which is a form of non-ionising radiation and electromagnetic radiation. Did you know the frequency of radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation ranges from 30 kilohertz to 300 gigahertz ? It emits from cell phone’s antenna. When we are on a call, the phone is often held against ours’ head. The closer the antenna to ours’ head, the greater the exposure to the radiofrequency waves. The body tissues closest to the phone absorb more energy from radiofrequency waves than tissues farther away. On the other hand, the radiation emits by cell phone may contribute to brain tumor such as Malignant brain tumor. This is a possible health effect in the future. But still, we can lower the exposure to radiofrequency waves from the cell phone by doing following actions. We can use the speaker mode or video chat feature on the phone or use texting instead of talking on the phone. This way, we can decrease the amount of radiofrequency waves that reach ours’ head.

Radiation is the transmission of energy in the form of rays, waves or particles. The harmfulness of radiation depends on their type, mass, energy and their penetration power. In fact, everything around us emits radiation; even we humans give off radiation. Unexpectedly, many daily use products have their radiation as well. One of the most common everyday radiations I face in my daily life is the cell phone; the cell phone emits radiofrequency radiation, which is a form of non-ionizing radiation, from its antenna. It may sound dangerous and harmful to our health, but in fact of the matter as long as we don’t take in a large dose of the radiofrequency radiation, a small dose of it isn’t hazardous because it doesn’t have enough energy to ionize atoms or break apart molecules. The cell phone emits about 450 to 2000 megahertz (MHz) but the power of radiation depends on the time used. The longer time used, the more contact we have with it, naturally the higher the power. Despite saying it is safe, we should always take precautions too. Hence, as fun or addicting the cell phone is, we should always take some time off it and power off the cell phone while sleeping at night.

One everyday example of radiation in my daily life is the radiation from the sun. One of the most important sources of energy is the Sun. The cosmic radiation emitted from the Sun is a mixture of electromagnetic waves; which range from infrared (IR) to ultraviolet rays (UV). In addition, it also emits visible light. Most of the radiation emitted by the Sun is absorbed by the atmosphere. However, the part which is not absorbed by the atmosphere reaches the earth. Humans are exposed to this part of the radiation almost all the time. The ultraviolet radiation in sunlight has both positive and negative health effects, as it is both a principal source of vitamin D3 and a mutagen. A dietary supplement can supply vitamin D without this mutagenic effect. Vitamin D has been suggested as having a wide range of positive health benefits, which include strengthening bones. Long-term sunlight exposure is known to be associated with the development of some types of skin cancer, skin aging, immune suppression, and eye diseases such as cataracts and macular degeneration. Conversely, sun avoidance is associated with increased mortality.

Radiation that we usually will faced is non-ionizing radiation as it is a very weak energy and cannot cause the ionizing of atoms. One of the example is Ultraviolet (UV) . Sun is the main source for Ultraviolet. Ultraviolet is a form of electromagnetic waves. Ultraviolet radiation is the electromagnetic spectrum extending from the violet. We are not able to see Ultraviolet unlike visible light. Ultraviolet direct effect on the human body are limited to the surface skin only. This is because Ultraviolet radiation has a low power of penetration compared to X-ray that can pass through human body. The effects of ultraviolet radiation include sunburn and development of pigment. Usually, Ultraviolet sunburns are mild that only cause redness and tenderness. The blood capillaries in the skin dilate with red and white blood cells to produce the red coloration. A development of pigment occurs when the pigments in cells in the deeper tissue portion of the skin are activated by ultraviolet radiation, and the cells migrate to the surface of the skin. When these cells die, the pigmentation disappears. To block the absorption of ultraviolet radiation, we can apply sunscreen on the skin. As a conclusion, Ultraviolet is not harmful to human as the will not cause acute or long-term damage to the skin.

Microwaves are forms of non ionising radiation.Non-ionizing radiation does not have enough energy to knock electrons out of atoms.Microwaves are produced inside the oven by an electron tube called a magnetron. The microwaves are reflected within the metal interior of the oven where they are absorbed by food. Microwave cooking can be more energy efficient than conventional cooking because foods cook faster and the energy heats only the food, not the whole oven compartment. Microwave cooking does not reduce the nutritional value of foods any more than conventional cooking. In fact, foods cooked in a microwave oven may keep more of their vitamins and minerals, because microwave ovens can cook more quickly and without adding water.

An example of radiation that we experience through our daily life is television. Older, box-shaped televisions that contain a cathode ray tube have the potential to emit low levels of X-ray radiation. If you use this type of television, experts advise sitting a distance of at least two to three feet away from the screen. The pixels are controlled in completely different ways in plasma and LCD screens. In a plasma screen, each pixel is a tiny fluorescent lamp switched on or off electronically. In an LCD television, the pixels are switched on or off electronically using liquid crystals to rotate polarized light. X-rays may be produced when electrons, accelerated by high voltage, strike an obstacle while traveling in a vacuum, as in a TV containing a cathode ray tube (CRT). Since many of the components in television sets operate at thousands of volts, there is the potential for x-ray generation. These components may produce x-rays capable of escaping from the television receiver or CRT. This unintentional emission of x-radiation can pose a potential hazard and must be controlled. X-radiation emissions from properly operated TV sets and computer monitors containing CRTs are well controlled and do not present a public health hazard.

There can be no denying the fact that wifi has become an important part of our daily life. Wifi uses radio waves to provide network connectivity. Devices that use WiFi have a wireless adapter that translates data sent into a radio signal. This signal is then transmitted to a decoder, known as the router. Wifi router is a type of non-ionizing radiation(EMF) which is generally viewed as harmless. Wireless routers, it is often assumed that they are always sending and receiving information, but these devices transmit just 0.1% of the time. When wifi router transmits data, it emits EMFs that can be absorb by our body. Therefore, the greater the distance you put between yourself and your router, the less radiation your body encounters.Although there is direct exposure to the skin, non-ionizing radiation won't damage DNA or cells directly. The best way to protect ourselves from radiation emissions from routers and electronic devices is to minimize the exposure.

Fluorescent light is a lamp that uses fluorescence to produce visible light. An electric current in the gas excites mercury vapor, which produces ultraviolet light that then causes a phosphor coating on the inside of the lamp to glow. There is no denying that we use fluorescent lights anywhere, such as in the classroom or at home.

The lamp starters of some fluorescent lights contain a small cylindrical glass bulb containing less than 15 nanocuries of krypton-85, a beta and gamma emitter with a half-life of 10.4 years. The radioactive isotope is not a concern unless the bulb is broken. Even then, fluorescent lamps have been suggested to affect human health in various ways.

The Health Protection Agency of the United Kingdom has concluded that exposure to compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) for over 1 hour per day can risk human health. In 2009, Natural Resources Canada stated that we would damage our skin and eyes due to daily exposure to ultraviolet radiation between 50 minutes and 5 hours. In more detail, 3.1% of the population suffer solar urticaria, a skin disorder affected by ultraviolet light are directly caused by CFLs. There is evidence that CFL exacerbates the condition of people with chronic actinic dermatitis, which is that the subject's skin becomes inflamed in response to sunlight or artificial light.

Radiation is the emission and propagation of energy in the form of waves, rays or particles. Radiation and radioactive substances are everywhere and have been around since the universe was born. We are exposed to radiation all the time. In our daily life, some people like to keep antiques at home as a collection. But do you know that some furniture, clothing, jewelry, dishes, and other treasures sold at thrift stores or antique shops might contain radioactive material? Some antiques were made and sold before scientists fully understood the health effects of radiation so certain radioactive materials were used in antiques because of their unique color.

For example, clocks, watches and dials that glow-in-the-dark without the use of a battery may contain radium or tritium. If these older timepieces are opened and the dial or hands handled, some of the radium could be picked up and possibly ingested. In the body, radium acts similar to calcium, so the radium that human ingested will be deposited into their bones. Many of the workers of the production of radium dials developed bone cancer, especially in their jaws.

Besides that, ceramics made until the 1970s may have glazes colored with radionuclides while vaseline glass, or canary glass, contains a small amount of uranium which gives the glass its yellow-green color. Cloisonné jewelry also gets some of its yellow, orange and off-white colors from small amounts of uranium in the glaze.

Radioactive antiques can continue to emit very low-levels of radiation for thousands of years, if not longer. Although the amount of radiation these items emit is small, however it can still register on a hand-held Geiger counter if the object is close enough to the monitor.

Hence，we should not attempt to take apart radium watches or instrument dials. Radioactive antiques are usually not a health risk as long as they are intact and in good condition. We should also avoid using ceramics like antique orange-red Fiestaware or Vaseline glass to hold food or drink. They can chip, and you can ingest particles of uranium with your food or drink.Lastly, we should immediately dispose any broken radioactive antiques. For instructions on proper disposal, you can contact your state or local radiation control program.

Radiation is the emission or transmission of energy in the form of waves or particles through space or through a material medium such as aluminum and steel. We are exposed to radiation every day, from natural sources such as minerals in the ground and man-made sources such as medical x-rays. According to the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP), the average annual radiation dose per person is 6.2 millisieverts.

Mobile phone is an important part of in our daily life. It is efficient communication devices and make life easier. However, mobile phone emits low levels of non-ionizing radiation when we use. The type of radiation emitted by mobile phone is also referred to as radio frequency (RF) energy. They are low-powered radiofrequency transmitters, operating at frequencies between 450 and 2700 MHz. The handset only transmits power when it is turned on. The power radiofrequency exposure falls with increasing distance from the handset. For example, when using a “hands free” device, it has a much lower exposure to radiofrequency fields than holding the handset against head. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) limit for public exposure from cellular telephones is an SAR level of 1.6 watts per kilogram (1.6 W/kg), which is save for humans. If our body will absorb excessive radio frequency (RF) energy, it may affect our health condition.

The primary concern with mobile phone and cancer is the development of brain tumors associated with mobile phone usage. Since mobile phone are usually hold near the head, it might cause or contribute to tumors in the area. For example, gliomas (brain) and tumors of the salivary glands.

For now, there is currently no consistent evidence that non-ionizing radiation increases cancer risk in humans. But if you're concerned about the possible link between mobile phone and cancer, consider limiting your use of mobile phone.

One example of radiation in my daily life is the laptop. Can you even imagine living without it? Well, I bet the majority of the global population would say ‘no’. Laptops are electronic devices or gadgets which are crucial, without a doubt, to everyone, especially teachers and students for education purposes, and professionals, and as well as to children for entertainment.

Among all of the electronic appliances and devices like mobile phones, microwave ovens, etc., laptops are one of the highest sources of the toxic Electromagnetic Field (EMF) radiation. Based on some research done by the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), EMFs are ‘possibly carcinogenic to humans’. They believe that there is a possible link between EMFs and cancer in people.

Laptops’ underside releases high-frequency radiation, emitting 40 to 100 milliGauss EMF, which is higher than the standard limit of EMF exposure. Studies have shown that people exposed to high levels of EMF for years at a time showed an increased risk of leukaemia in adults. An apparent link between EMF and leukaemia in children was also uncovered by scientists. However, they said that the monitoring of EMF was not enough, so they couldn’t come to any conclusions yet.

According to scientists, EMFs can affect our bodies’ nervous system function and cause damage to body cells. Cancer and unusual growths may be one symptom of a very high EMF exposure. Other symptoms may include headache, insomnia, dizziness, appetite loss and weight loss, fatigue, and so on. Nevertheless, the diagnosis from symptoms is unlikely and the symptoms of EMF exposure are vague.

Instead of worrying about EMFs, we should simply be aware of the radiation released by laptops and reduce the risk of being exposed to them. We ought to keep our laptops in another room or downstairs when we sleep. Other than that, we must leave the laptop alone when we aren’t using it. Moreover, we could just use the speaker function or Bluetooth earbuds rather than earphones, so the radiation will not be able to travel into our bodies easily. And of course, we need to distance ourselves from the laptop and don’t be too near to it when we are using it to decrease the chances of exposure to the radiation. To sum it all up, we should unplug ourselves from our laptops and go out once in a while or take a quick weekend getaway to breathe some fresh air.

Radiation includes all the forms of energy , including sunlight .

Humans are exposed to this part of the radiation almost all times and excessive absorption of sunlight will cause sunburn and even skin cancer .

Most people are familiar with ultraviolet, or UV, rays. Mobile phones play an important role in our daily life, especially in metropolitan cities. Nowadays, the mobile phone is an integral part of modern telecommunications in every individual's life. However, do you know that mobile phones actually emit non-ionizing radiations? The type of radiation emitted by mobile phones is of radio frequency (RF) energy. The frequency of radio frequency energy of mobile phone ranges from 30 kilohertz to 30 gigahertz. Mobile phone emits radiations through its antenna. When we are on a call, we will place the phone closer to our heads. This may lead us to the exposure of radio frequency energy. The closer the body tissues are to the radio frequency energy, the more energy the body tissues absorbs. Long-term exposure to our mobiles phones may lead us to headache or brain tumors. Therefore, we shouldn't spend too much time on our phones.

In our daily life, food is needed every day and cannot be eliminated out from our life. Food is the one that supply us energy to do our daily activities. Without food, we could not carry out our daily activities or even live properly. However, do you know actually food also consists of radiation?

Some foods contain naturally-occurring radionuclides such as potassium, carbon, radium and their decay products. However, these foods do not pose a radiation risk because the amount of radiation is very small.

Food will gain radioactivity in a few ways. Firstly, food will gain radioactivity by uptake which the roots of plants take in radionuclides from rocks and minerals present in the soil. Secondly, radioactivity in food will be gained by deposition which the radioactive particles in the air settle onto crops. Thirdly, food will gain radioactivity through bioaccumulation when the radionuclides accumulate in animals that ingest plants, feed, or water containing radioactive material. For examples, fish will take up radioactivity from water or sediments. In turn, it could be eaten by humans as part of their diet.

There are some examples of food that contain naturally-occurring radionuclides. The most well-known examples are bananas and Brazil nuts. According to scientific research, bananas contain potassium which a small fraction of it is radioactive. Each banana can emit 0.1 micro Sieverts of radiation which is only a very small amount of radiation. Same as bananas, Brazil nuts contain potassium, but they also contain a small amount of radium taken up from the soil . Examples for daily products include cheese; examples for meat and fish include fish, sausage and eggs while the examples for fruits and vegetables include potatoes, white bread and berries.

Natural radiation in food should not be confused with food irradiation. Food irradiation is a process that uses ionizing radiation to improve the safety and extends the shelf life of foods in order to prevent foodborne illness and food spoilage. During this process, bacteria, molds and other pests in food will be killed. The irradiated food does not come into contact with radioactive materials, and it does not make foods radioactive or compromise nutritional quality in food.

In conclusion, natural radiation in food does not require any special actions because the radiation levels are extremely low. Thus, food is safe to consume by humans.

What is radiation?
Radiation is the emission and propagation of energy in the form of waves, rays or particles. There are three main types of radiation:

Non-ionizing radiation: This is the release of energy from the lower-energy region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Non-ionizing radiation includes radio waves, micro waves and infra-red radiation.

Ionizing radiation: This is radiation with sufficient energy to remove an electron from an atomic orbital, forming an ion. Ionizing radiation includes x-ray, gamma rays, alpha particles, and beta particles.

Neutrons: Neutrons are particles found in the atomic nucleus. When they break away from the nucleus, they have energy and act as radiation.

One common everyday example of radiation in my daily life that I use is the computer. Computer is a electronic device which is crucial to everyone for various examples such as education, business, entertainment and many more.

Computers emit non ionizing radiation. We are exposed to this type of radiation from numerous sources—cell phones, electric blankets, microwaves, AM/FM radio, etc.

Radiation from computer cannot be seen by the naked eyes, but it can pose real dangers to our health. If we use the computer directly in front of us for long hours, it exposes us to quite more intense radiation that are harmful. It has been said that the amount of radiation emitted by desktop computers is generally higher than that which is emitted from Laptop or notebook computers. Furthermore, computer battery operates and this plays a major role in reducing the rate of radiation emitted from computers but internal parts of computer heat up and radiate. There is a generation of Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) by computer from storage and computing processing. Prolonged exposure to this radiation may produce biological effects on human health.
For now, there is currently no consistent evidence that non-ionizing radiation increases cancer risk in humans. One should be aware of the possibility of eye strain, back problems, etc from sitting in front of the screen for long periods. The antennas in mobile phone emit radiofrequency (RF- usually are high frequency electromagnetic radiation) radiation which can be absorb by the head or body nearest to the antenna and convert into heat.

Research about radiation associated with mobile phone antennas can affect human health had been done by scientists since the 1990s. Mobile phone's antennas use various bands of radiofrequency, which may overlap with the microwave range (1 GHz to 1000 GHz) which are very harmful to human health.

In 1996, the International EMF (Electromagnetic Field) Project was established by World Health Organization (WHO) to look for the scientific evidence of possible health effects caused by EMF in the frequency range from 0 to 300 GHz. The scientists have stated that the research has been conducted into possible health effects, which is exposure to the frequency spectrum.
But as long as the exposures are below the limits recommended in the ICNIRP (1998) EMF guidelines, 0–300 GHz, such exposures won't produce any health effect.

But based on the epidemiologic studies, it shows that assessment of EMF exposure related risk in developing various cancers. Also, the epidemiologic studies proved the relationship between intracranial cancer and mobile phone using exist.

Well, according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) , which is an agency of World Health Organization (WHO), wireless radiation are possibly carcinogenic, which means there could be some risk of carcinogens.

According to the statement above, there are studies and researches proving that the radiation (radiofrequency) emit by the mobile phone's antennas or wireless radiation may have the possibility in harming our own health. So, we should make sure if the radiofrequency of the mobile devices that we are using won't overlap the microwave range to keep us away from the health effect of radiation exposures.

One of the example of radioation in our daily life is the radiation dose from the sunlight. Sunlight feels warm because our body absorbs the infra-red rays it contains. But, infra-red rays do not produce ionization in body tissue. In contrast, ionizing radiation can impair the normal functioning of the cells or even kill them. The amount of energy necessary to cause significant biological effects through ionization is so small that our bodies cannot feel this energy as in the case of infra-red rays which produce heat.

The biological effects of ionizing radiation vary with the type and energy. A measure of the risk of biological harm is the dose of radiation that the tissues receive. The unit of absorbed radiation dose is the sievert (Sv). Since one sievert is a large quantity, radiation doses normally encountered are expressed in millisievert (mSv) or microsievert (µSv) which are one-thousandth or one millionth of a sievert. For example, one chest X-ray will give about 0.2 mSv of radiation dose.

On average, our radiation exposure due to all natural sources amounts to about 2.4 mSv a year - though this figure can vary, depending on the geographical location by several hundred percent. In homes and buildings, there are radioactive elements in the air. These radioactive elements are radon (Radon 222), thoron (Radon 220) and by products formed by the decay of radium (Radium 226) and thorium present in many sorts of rocks, other building materials and in the soil. By far the largest source of natural radiation exposure comes from varying amounts of uranium and thorium in the soil around the world.

One of the examples of radiation in my daily life is the WiFi Router. WiFi routers emit electromagnetic radiations. The electromagnetic radiation allows our applications as well as devices to receive the signal. Without the radiation, we wouldn’t be able to have access to the Internet unless we use mobile data for it.

WiFi has became an essential usage for everyone who is living in the modern life. The exposure to such electromagnetic radiations can also have consequences on human health. Too much exposure to radiations continuously will lead to cancerous cells that is produced by EMFs which are emitted by the radiation and are absorbed by our body. The greater the distance between ourselves and the router, the less radiation that will be absorbed by our body.

As a conclusion, we can always take a break from the cyber network in the world as we have been exposed to various radiations that are transmitted by the electrical appliances and devices. We could occasionally turn off the WiFi router and just breathe in some fresh air as well as read a novel that has been trending.

Radiation, it comes into existence in almost every aspect of our life, including our daily food requirement.

Do you ever even know that one of our daily favorite fruit, the bananas, is a good example of naturally-occurring radionuclides in foods that most of us are consuming?

Bananas have naturally high-levels of potassium and a small fraction of all potassium is actually radioactive! It may come to a shock that each banana can emit 0.01 millirem (0.1 microsieverts) of radiation.

Luckily, this is considered a very small amount of radiation. To put that in context, we would need to eat up to about 100 bananas to receive the same amount of radiation exposure as we get each day from natural radiation in the environment around us. So, as long as you don’t eat up to 100 bananas, we are not exposed to its radiation hazards, which I bet, our stomach would never want that!

Like bananas, Brazil nuts also contain potassium, but luckily they also contain a small amount of radium that is taken up from the soil in which they are grown. Besides, other foods like peanut butter, carrots, red meat, potatoes and butter beans also contain radiation.

The bottom line is, if we overeat anything, it may work negatively. So, just like doing exercise, draw the line, eat just enough!

Radiation is a type of energy in the form of rays, which are often invisible to the human eye. Although it can’t be seen, it’s frequently used in invented technologies during this new era. There are three forms of radiation: alpha particles, beta particles and gamma rays.

Microwave ovens are one of the examples of radiation in daily life. It emits thermal radiation to heat up food. How does thermal radiation heat up food, you’d ask? It emits electromagnetic waves and microwaves. Magnetron is placed inside the microwave oven that produces microwaves. The metal interior of the oven reflects microwaves to the food causing the water molecules in food to vibrate. Microwave energy is changed into heat energy when absorbed by food. Hence it does not make food “contaminated” and is safe for us to consume.

Some may have mentioned that microwaves reduces the nutritional value in food, that is untrue. In fact microwave oven maintains more of the vitamins and minerals as it takes lesser time to cook and adding water is not neded.

One example of radiation in my daily life is the remote control. How remote controls use infrared beams?

The first thing you notice about a remote control unit is that it has no wires, so it has to send signals to whatever it's operating using electromagnetic waves. Light, X rays, radio waves, and microwave are all examples of electromagnetic waves: vibrating packets of electrical and magnetic energy that travel through the air at the speed of light. Most remote controls send signals using infrared radiation ,though some use radio waves instead.

Other than that, the human eye is not sensitive to the infrared light used by television remote controls. Our eyes can only see a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, and infrared light—which has lower frequency, longer wavelengths, and less energy per photon than red light—is just outside the range of the light we can see.

lnfrared light is often divided into the near infrared, which is closest to the visible spectrum, and far infrared, which is emitted by warm objects. To send a signal to a television, remote controls often use a diode that emits light at around 940 nanometers in wavelength, which falls into the range of near-infrared light.

Some digital cameras have filters to block near-infrared light, but most can detect it. It shows up on the screen as if it were visible light. When you press a button on the remote control, the camera may show a pulsing light emitted by the remote. The pulses are coded to control the television.

Infrared light and visible light interact with materials in different ways. Near-infrared light passes through clear glass and will reflect off metal surfaces, including mirrors. Infrared light passes through most black plastic trash bags, so you should be able to control your television even with the remote covered in plastic.

Laptop computer is a part of our daily life nowadays. However, laptop computer is one of the radiation appliances in our daily life . Laptop computer emits several different kinds of radiation.

Laptop computer emits electromagnetic radiation. This is the visible light given off by the laptop's screen that makes it possible for you to see what the computer is displaying. Infrared radiation given off by all parts of the laptop due to their temperature, through the everyday process of thermal emission. Most of this thermal radiation consists of infrared waves. For hotter temperatures, the thermal radiation can include visible light and even ultraviolet rays. Radio waves given off by the WIFI antenna and Bluetooth antenna in the laptop, which are used to connect to a wireless network. Some of the radio waves come the leak of the electronic circuitry inside the laptop. Nuclear radiation including gamma rays. This nuclear radiation emitted through the natural radioactive decay of atomic isotopes in the computer's materials. Small amounts of nuclear radiation from the radioactive decay these unstable isotopes. All objects that emit visible light are emitting radiation because light is a radiation. But all of the radiation emitted by the laptop is low-frequency and low-intensity to be harmful to humans.

All the forms of radiation mentioned above are typically harmless to humans. Many health problems such as headache, cardiac disease, burning sensation, redness, fatigue are related to long time exposure of radiation. Inappropriate use of a computer can cause muscle and joint pain, overuse injuries of the shoulder, arm, wrist or hand and eyestrain. Therefore, we should take a rest after a long period of using the computer especially during the Lockdown days we had been using the electronic devices for a long period to carry on online lesson. These are the some of the high-energy radiation is harmful to humans. For example, exposure to ultraviolet rays, X-rays, gamma rays, and nuclear radiation such as alpha rays, beta rays, neutron radiation, and proton radiation. This may lead to mutation, cancer and radiation sickness. Hence, we should have a well organized timetable for the usage of an electrical device.
