Going on a walk around my area (Mansfield Park) I had in mind a place that could be suitable for the task required. Walking to the parks center, which was redone only a few years ago I saw a few dotted art featured on the walls. Apart of that is swimming pools, basketball courts, library and a child care center to name a few. Going passed the child care center there were works displayed made by the children that could be seen through the window that features flags, which included the aboriginal flag of the black sky, red sand and yellow sun. Also boomerangs that could be seen around a sharp corner that could have been a dot painting activity. From memory the old buildings featured a whole wall of art when I use to go there to borrow books, it captured different cultures with the art styles used and also the people drawn on the wall. When I think back to aboriginal studies in primary school, it was a subject that was done in one term every year up until year 4/5. I remember a particular day where the whole school was assembled in the hall to watch the Kevin Rudd’s apology speech in 2008, not understanding the importance of what it meant to the Indigenous people of the land at the time.

Going on a walk I was reflecting on the reading for this week, because I catch the Seaford train everyday of the week, and never knew the disruption it caused when mapped out. It was an insightful reading and disturbing in many ways, however good to see in this instance that there was an effort to correct the wrong (slowly but surely). To imagine this being done to a grave which belonged to my ancestors, family and friends who have greatly influenced me as a person, is hard to fully comprehend. So my thoughts for the task this week were based around more of a 'could'. Could the Seaford line have more aboriginal installations, or art? Is there a way to represent this tragedy, in a light which influences understand and positive teachings. It is too late in process of culture to return to a fully indigenous way of life, as people are consumers now and are accustomed to a particular way of life, however, there are school likes steiner/waldorf/culture schools which incorporate more than the traditional academics, so why isn't there a strand of school which allow a balance between indigenous teachings intwined with the current curriculum - allowing those with indigenous backgrounds to strengthen whats left of their culture, in terms which are nature to their culture?Obviously easier thought than done, but also almost too obvious a part-solution?

From paintings stretched across buses/trams to murals scattered around, the roots of art is still alive. it gave me a sense that having these around people every day they can be influenced by the art that is from way before them.
