    Ancient Sumer roughly corresponds to our Southern Iraq today. 
    Had a dozen or so independent city states under the protection of different mesopotamian deities. 
    Since the Sumerians developed a strong agriculture the people were able to specialize in other activities such as trade, manufacturing, and administration.
