In 1673, the Illinois were a large, powerful group of tribes in which there was more than 10,000 people and took up a large amount of  territory. but, in 1832, when they gave up the last of their lands to the United States, they lost people and ended up a single village of less than 300 people. 
    in 1714 smallpox attacked and killed at least 200 Kaskaskia Indians decreasing the population of Indians even more.
