The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is made up of two identical walls of black granite that are each 246 feet, 9 inches long. As visitors walk down the sloping ground toward the center of the V, the wall looms above them. At the center V, one wall begins with the earliest dates of the war. Visitors read the names chronologically to the end of the wall, then walk over to the end of the other wall, and read the names back down to the center V again. This arrangement symbolizes bringing the war full circle.

Since the Vietnam Veterans Memorial opened in 1982, people have placed thousands of items in tribute. Some items are housed in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. Several photo-essay books have documented the objects visitors leave.

3)Many people feel a deep, personal connection to the wall, as it serves as a reflective surface. The wall reflects not only the names of the dead but also the faces of those who visit. Ríos writes, “It’s mirror black, with the names / Right there, looking back.” This suggests that visitors see both the names of the fallen soldiers and their own reflections, symbolizing a merging of the past and present, and inviting personal reflection

5)The central idea of “The Vietnam Wall” by Alberto Ríos is that the Vietnam Veterans Memorial serves as a powerful, reflective space where people confront grief, memory, and the lasting impact of war. The poet emphasizes how the memorial connects the past to the present, encouraging visitors to interact with the names of the fallen in a deeply personal and emotional way. It becomes a place of individual reflection and collective mourning.

6) the best image that shows the visit to the Vietnam wall is the one with the old man. As it shows the mourning of the individual to his fellow friend or relative and the effect of this wall of names to his emotions and feelings

The simile is taken from stanza 1 line 3,“ the way like cutting onions”, this compares people cutting onions with the people that visit the wall, as when people cut onions, they begin to cry and tear up , just like when they visit the wall, they get emotional , and tear up when they read their names.

The metaphor is taken from stanza20 line 1,“ taller than i am : i have walked into a grave”, this metaphor compares the wall to a grave. Since the wall is 10ft tall, the poet feels like he is walking in a grave. It is so tall that he feels deep. Into a grave.

This is taken from stanza .(30), l.(1-3), the poet says,”Little kids do not make the same noise Here, junior high school boys don’t run Or hold each other in headlocks.”

The central idea in The Vietnam Wall, is the connection between the living and the dead through memory and reflection.

These images show a wall that has all the people who fought in the Vietnamese war and it shows the black color this shows the death of the soldiers. this image symbolizes that they are not forgotten and will always be remembered. And this show that people have to be proud of them because they fought for their country.

The best image is image 1, as the people seem to be reading the names of the fallen and missing. The angle the picture is taken from seems to be at a wider point of view, meaning that the author wanted to show the background. The wall is black resembling the feelings of death and depression, while the nature around it has bright colors which contrasts the wall by giving a feeling of hope and a new age.

The poem emphasizes emotional connection and reflection, while photographs focus on the wall’s physical presence. Both highlight the wall’s significance, but the poem explores internal emotions, and photos capture visual details. The poem leaves out visuals, while photos may miss deeper emotions.

A simile from Rios poem is, "The magic, the way like cutting onions" (line 5)The speaker compares the magic of the memorial to what happens when you start cutting onions. When you look at the Vietnam Wall, you'll burst into tears, just like you would when you cut onions. It allows you to feel sadness

A metaphor from lines 20-25 "an alphabet of—somewhere—screaming." The image coveyed is the horrible torture many veterans went through to try and protect their country. The mood is sympathetic because the writer wants the readers to feel sympathy towards the death of the veterans

The visitors are respectful. "boys don't run or hold each other in headlocks."(L2-3)

The central idea focuses on sadness and grief. The poet uses this subject to allow the readers to go through grief and sympathy towards the fallen soldiers.

The memorial is a crowded place filled by many family members searching for their loved ones name. The black wall allows many to feel sad towards the soldiers who sacrificed themselves for their country. The gloomy colors also add to the mood, allowing people to feel horrible and sad for the amazing veterans who tragically passed away.

Image 8 best conveys the experience of visiting thr Vietnam Veterans Memorial since the man "Miguel Sanches" breaks down into tears upon seeing his friends name on the wall. This image shows the reader how easily people break down upon seeing a loved ones name, showing the pain they go through.

Photographs and poems both express feelings and ideas, but they do it in different ways. Photographs show real images and can make us feel emotions through what we see, while poems use words to create pictures in our minds and explore deeper thoughts. The images of “The Vietnam Wall” focus on remembering those who died in the war and the sadness of loss, but they don’t tell the personal stories behind each name on the wall.

1) The simile found in verse 1-5 is,“The way like cutting onions…” this simile represents how when you look at the Vietnam wall it brings down tears as if you are cutting an onion. This shows that the thought of the Vietnam wall is very sad and emotional to the visitor.

2) The metaphor found in line 20-25 is,“I have walked into a grave”. This sentence implies that the Vietnam wall where the names of the deaths are embedded to it, resemble the feeling of walking into a grave, reading all of the people that have sacrificed their lives for the cause. This creates a gloomy depressing mood throughout the poem.

3) The author uses many responses throughout the poem “Little kids do not make the same noise here, junior high school boys don’t run or hold each other in headlocks…” L:(30-33), this phrase conveys the message of how the children and juniors respect the wall by changing their normal behavior, and it gives out a feeling of sorrow and unhappiness knowing that these many deaths affected the society greatly.

4) The central idea of the story is the honoring of the memorial of the Vietnam wall. They talk about the history and tributes given to it. There show how people react when visiting the wall and how they contribute to the cause.

5) These images of the wall are very sorrowful and pessimistic, they conjure images of people visiting the wall and giving tributes to the wall, this creates a painful and heartbreaking mood knowing that the people had lost their loved ones in this accursed war.

6) The image of the different races mourning for the loss of their loved ones, and how people all o ver the world come to the Vietnam wall to express their emotions and their thoughts. The people come to show their respect and gratitude.

7) Both the images and poem are ways to express thoughts and ideas, they both use certain techniques to help the reader understand the main theme or idea. However in a poem the author can deliver his thoughts and feelings more freely while in an image an analysis is needed to visualize and find the central meaning .

1- The simile in the text is “the way like cutting unions it brings water out of nowhere.” The author compares the sadness and tears of the people standing In front of the wall to the action of cutting onions, which both makes people shed the tiniest tears. This comparison suggests that people shed a tear whenever they come close to the vietnam wall, showing their respect to the dead service members.

2-The metaphor is: “the taller I am:I have walked into a grave.” This metaphor symbolizes that the author is comparing the vietnam wall to a grave, showing the dead service members’ names written on the wall, honoring them every time someone walks by. The figurative language sets the reader in a gloomy, depressing mood when reading the poem.

3- The people made several responses to seeing the wall, like “Men have cried” L(40), “little kids do not make the same noise Here, junior high school boys don’t run or hold each other in headlocks.” L(30,31,32)

4-The central idea of the text is talking about the vietnam wall, and its purpose, and the veterans relate to the poem as they help show the sadness in their souls for the dead service members who’s names are on the wall. They also show how people can react to the beautiful creation (the wall) and be sad and depressed to see their names and the huge loss of the dead people.

5- Inside the photos of the poem, you can see veterans and people crying in honor of their lost loved one, with tributes and names on the wall, and people taking memories from their loved ones. These details contribute to how special the wall is to some people, and put the reader in a gloomy mood when reading.

     6-

1: the simile found in, verse 3 is, "the way like cutting onions" and this simile means that when people look at the wall they start crying. same as when people cut onions they start to cry. this shows that the thought of the Vietnam wall is very sad and emotional to the visitors.

2: The metaphor found in verse 21-21 ," I have walked into a grave" implies that the Vietnam wall with the names of the deaths are written on it is similar to walking into a grave where the names of the dead are imbedded on a stone. it creates a gloomy mood since walking into a grave brings pessimistic emotions into one's heart.

3: In this poem the author comments about the kids' responses towards the Vietnam wall by saying," Little kids do not make the same noise. Here, junior high school boys don't run or hold each other in headlocks." (paragraph 30, line 1-3).

4: The main idea of the Vietnam Wall is, the honor people give, and the feeling people feel towards the Vietnam Wall, since the wall itself sends out respect and makes the people who are standing facing it give it honor.

5: each one of these images focus on one thing in specific which is the Vietnam Wall. and the grieve of the people visiting it and how it affects them. It contributes with the mood of the essay by adding depression and sorrow.

6: Image 8 best conveys the experience of visiting the Vietnam Wall. since it shows a man crying facing the Vietnam Wall. This shows how the Wall plays a role in the emotions of the visitors and the reason that the man might be crying is because he might've seen a name of one of his relatives and I think that it is a great reason to cry.

7: The difference in effects by poems and photos is that photos give a deeper meaning by showing what is going on in the picture in details. while in a poem the meaning is hidden, and we need to figure it out.
