I chose these visual and audio clips because they represent my personal journey.
The markets of Melbourne are iconic. They provide food, shelter, entertainment, community and so much more; A feast for the senses. Places I have lingered and loved over the years.

As we listened to and read 'Dadirri' (Ungunmerr-Baumann,2002) I was moved and reminded to be aware of the concept of deep listening, which gave me an authentic understanding of my surroundings for this provocation. My city soundscapes facilitated deep reflection within and inspired me to listen deeply to my personal story.
Before children learn to make sense of their world, they need to feel secure and comfortable in their immediate environment. The services that I attend as an educator work hard to facilitate this for their families, staff, and visitors.
With this in mind, my first response to a child who may show that their needs are not being met is to embrace and validate their feelings and work to reassure them that they belong. Using pedagogical listening, I try to block out the buzz of the room activities and focus on 'Hearing and Deep Listening' to their needs. (Murray Schafer, 1933-2021).

The market was dramatic, in and of itself! The movement was constant and people's conversations and language were animated.
The market has a backdrop of sound, (dialogue) and scenes in every corner.
I inhaled the cooking aromas and tasted the coffee. I saw colour and movement. I enjoyed the human together with the more than human elements.
People in their 'busyness' with birds calling out their songs.
I sensed urgency mixed with immersion.
I felt grateful to be sharing this rich indigenous land.
The experience gave me an opportunity to reflect on how far I have traveled, (literally and metaphorically) in life, and all that I have experienced and will continue to experience for which I am thankful and excited.
