- He notices that the hill is steeper and is covered in ice. 

- He start going downhill, but soon loses control of the sled and fell onto the icey ground. 

- He ended up breaking his leg, he describes the pain by saying that it felt like a hatchet was lodged in his leg.

- He was in pain for the rest of the night due to the fact that he isn't allowed to take pain killers. 

- After Jonas is given a memory of starvation, he asks the giver why it is that they hold onto these memories. He tells Jonas that these memories give them the wisdom they need to advise the community on their desisions. 

- The giver tells Jonas about how years ago, they wanted to increase the birth rates and have the birth mothers have four kids rather then three. The giver advised them against it not wanting to cause overpopulation. 

- Jonas starts saying how it's unfair of them having to carry all of these memories and says that they should change it.
