One way that I can reduce my own implicit bias is to practice mindfulness. I think that sometimes I am quick to have an unconscious attitude or judgment towards a person of different gender, race, or ethnicity. Practicing mindfulness is a behavioral practice that can help me become more aware of my thoughts and actions towards others. It is also a practice that allows individuals to have the ability to relate to others and one's self with kindness, acceptance and compassion.

One way I can reduce implicit bias is to increase my exposure to certain topics/ideas. It is very important to remain openminded because there are many idea's to be learned and perspectives to understand. Increasing exposure to other ideas and topics can help individuals including myself to become more knowledgeable and aware of my responses. This can ultimately change the way a conversation goes and can help develop a stronger connection between a person and what they are engaging in.

One way I can reduce implicit bias is to work to increase empathy and empathic communication. The ability to understand another's perspective and emotions is very important in all human social encounters. Before saying an assumption or misjudging its always best at first to hear what the person has to say and then communicate the issue afterwards. Communication comes into play in our daily lives and without them we won't be able to express our emotions / feelings, and thoughts. It's always important to speak what our minds and hearts tell us.

One way to reduce implicit bias is by being aware of stereotypes. Because of how prevalent certain stereotypes are within society, some people may unconsciously believe these stereotypes and generalizations. This is especially problematic in the healthcare setting, as some healthcare practitioners may disregard patient concerns due to the practitioner's belief in certain stereotypes. For example, stereotypes about certain groups of people having a higher or lower pain tolerance can lead to malpractice, miscommunication, and distrust. It is very important to be aware of stereotypes that we've heard or even believe, and to acknowledge that these stereotypes are untrue. Seeing patients as unique individuals rather than stereotyping them is crucial for reducing implicit bias.

Implicit bias takes place in the “real” world and the healthcare world. Implicit bias refers to unintentional feelings that one may have about something, a person, or maybe a group. One way that I can reduce my own implicit bias is “perspective taking.” As a healthcare worker or health educator I can put myself in the patient's lifestyle, needs, and accessibility. I feel like this is such a key factor to understanding others and humbling yourself. This is important because not every individual has the same necessities or is able to access the same essentials. Understanding the patient or student can allow you to adapt the treatment, protocol, or curriculum needed for them to be successful.

One way I can reduce implicit bias is through understanding. By doing this I will understand various individuals through their heart and not what is on the outside, such as their physical appearance. I will try to make a connection with various people and believe them no matter what they say is troubling them, even if it sounds absurd. It is important to create a well maintained communication pathway between myself and the patient or individual to understand them so I can help with their needs.

Getting to know individuals from different groups; whether it be a different ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, etc., being surrounded by people from different groups will help individuals to be able to identify when implicit bias is playing a role in their mind or around them. It will help see beyond people's stereotypes.

One way to reduce implicit bias is to recognize that implicit bias exists. By doing so, one will look more carefully at how they treat their patients, no matter their race, ethnicity, gender, economic status, etc. For example, I am given a training at the hospital that I work at in regard to how to treat African-American pregnant women. In the past, medical professionals believed that an African-American's pain tolerance is much higher which then led to them not prioritizing African-American pregnant women when they come in for pain in the pregnancy. Unfortunately, this resulted in many African-American women to have miscarriages. Now that they have realized about this implicit bias, we are told that we have to treat every patient equally. Also, one has to listen to their patient when they are stating that they have some type of pain or discomfort. Since we are not experiencing it, we cannot judge the patient based off their appearance. Overall, we have to remember that everyone has a different pain tolerance which is why we should all take the patient's statements serious.

Implicit bias is the root of the many inequities present in today's world, especially in the field of public health. However, there are things we can do that aid us in reducing implicit bias. One way that I can do this is by exposing myself to groups of different sexual orientations, ethnic backgrounds, ages, gender identities, etc. I may be surrounding myself with people who are similar to me, but it is important to associate with people of all different backgrounds. I can do this by opening up my social circle to these different groups, or by attending events where I can meet new people. Doing this will allow me to learn more about their own history, struggles, and lives in general.

Reflecting on your actions, conversations, and ideas towards different cultures can allow for growth. If I reflect, I can identify biases that I might have not known were there.

Implicit bias is the way that people unconsciously judge each other. This is an issue in medicine because reduces the quality of healthcare and leads to some patients receiving suboptimal treatment. Often this may also result in a disconnect between healthcare providers and patients because patients may not feel comfortable trusting and discussing their problems with providers. One way to reduce implicit bias is to imagine the patient as the reverse of any stereotypes that may come up. Stereotyping is commonly used to make assumptions about patients based on their look/race/gender/sexuality/etc. For example, a doctor would assume an obese patient would have a poor diet and be considered unhealthy because of their weight. To eliminate implicit bias, in this case, the doctor would imagine the patient is exhibiting the same symptoms as average size individual. Through this method, the dynamics of the provider and patient would improve and the patient would be more likely to share accurate information.

A way in which I would address and reduce my own implicit bias would be through individuation. By seeing the person as an individual, learning about their personal history and how and why they came into the situation they are in is important. By doing so I would hope to eliminate the chance of myself stereotyping anyone and recognizing right away if I am unconsciously doing so. I think it is important to face any type of bias we have immediately so we can recognize it, address it, and take action to ensure it doesn't affect the situation in a negative means.

Reducing implicit bias is important in our lives because they can directly affect the people/patients we interact with in our professional careers. For example, if we have implicit bias patients might not get the right care and end up being in a worse state than they already are or we can take away someone's opportunity by unconsciously stereotyping them and giving the opportunity to someone else. One way I reduce my own implicit bias is to interact with different kinds of people (race/ethnicity, gender, age, and beliefs) and actually see them as individuals instead of grouping them as a category. I feel that discussing our own experiences with topics like discrimination and cultural beliefs allows me to gain perspective and open up my own point of view to understand and accept the differences people have. It can also bring people of different backgrounds/lifestyles together and relate to one another.

A way to reduce implicit bias in my opinion is to practice mindfulness, being mindful of others and yourself is an important thing to look at. Being aware of our surroundings as well as your thoughts and actions is an important thing to do. I realize that we go through a lot of hardships in life and we forget to remind ourselves to take care of our bodies by meditating, focus on your breathing, and even try new things to improve our positive mindset. Being mindfulness can also lessen implicit bias because of the attitudes that are based on associations, it influences our behavior more than we realize. Many members within our community go through hardships in life and taking a few deep breaths and trying to reduce the amount of negativity we allow inside our brains deserves a break. By taking some time off, the persons behavior can improve as well as the mind allowing it to bring in kindness into the world.

A massive concern is at a healthcare setting where medical professionals may not be understanding or act a certain way towards a person based on stereotypes. Primarily, the most important approach in reduce implicit bias is to come from a place of compassion with an empathetic, opened mind. It is best to acknowledge that implicit bias does exist, and effective method is to practice being mindful and reflect upon that. I think that recognizing the unconscious stereotypes I have can help prevent assumptions or feelings I have towards others in the future. Adding on to this practice, I think that it would be best if you can have a friend help you identify implicit bias'. Understanding yourself can be a difficult task, so having that extra hand could be helpful in practicing mindfulness.

I could reduce my own implicit bias by increasing my exposure because all my close friends are Hispanic. By expanding my friend group, I could get a better insight into other ethnic backgrounds to understand how other people with distinct backgrounds follow different beliefs or have different perspectives from mine because of how they were raised in their culture. Further, by increasing my exposure to a more diverse friend group, I can gain knowledge of learning to see things from a different point of view that I might have never understood or seen without putting myself in that exposure. Ultimately this will help me consciously change any stereotypes I might subconsciously make.

Implicit bias is unrealized prejudice that is held towards another subject. One way I can reduce implicit bias is by unlearning toxic ideology. Toxic ideologies can influence people to think in ways that will affect their view of others as well such as perfection equals success, this toxic ideology may create a belief that people who fail or are uneducated will never succeed or make it in life. Recognizing and dispelling the biases that one has can widen one's perspective of life thus enabling the opportunity to become culturally competent when gaining more knowledge of others.

Implicit bias is the attitudes or stereotype that has an affect on the understanding and actions one makes unconsciously. One way I believe I can reduce implicit bias is by educating myself more on other cultures. This would help me as I would have a basic understanding of the different cultures I may interact with. This would help prevent any unfair treatment to those I interact with and also give them more confidence in me as they can see that they are dealing with someone who truly cares and understands them and there cultural beliefs.

Implicit bias is when we have an unconscious bias and/or attitude towards people, and often associate them with stereotypes. I think a way that medical professionals can help reduce this idea is by educating themselves about all types of people. This can mean anything from understanding their culture and working with their cultural beliefs to reduce their pain, or focusing on seeing people as individuals, instead of associating them with a certain group. Every person is unique in their own ways and they need to be dealt with and understood in ways that suit them to make them comfortable.

Implicit bias, I feel, has to a lot with the confusion or unfamiliarity of customs of others besides oneself. A useful strategy to reduce/eradicate implicit bias from ones personal life and society as a whole, would be to understand other cultures besides our own. This does not mean follow customs or traditions of other cultures, it more so entails being aware and understanding that people are different than oneself and that there are certain individuals and or groups that follow different belief systems than oneself. This allows us as a society to be more aware about how and why other people act or do certain things (i.e go to church on Sundays, take off their shoes before entering a home, to name a few). Being aware allows us to understand others, in turn potentially reducing the bias we once held, because now there is an understanding of these customs and less unfamiliarity and or confusion.

In the medical field this topic is important because we will interact with people of different cultures, races, genders, and much more. It is important to be aware of our bias because it can influence different types of behaviors. One way that I can reduce my implicit bias is to accept that it happens more often than we think and I should start by putting aside common stereotypes and respecting everyone's ethnicities. This will allow me to not judge people and do not treat them a certain type of way. Everyone deserves equal treatment, free of bias. In the medical field, this is very important because they interact with different cultures, ethnicities, gender, etc. No one should face implicit bias as it reduces the quality of health care. Medical Professionals are responsible to make people feel comfortable and safe and that cannot happen if they are biased towards their patients.

Implicit bias remains prevalent within our society today. It occurs unconsciously by associating particular stereotypes or biased judgments with different cultures. Achieving health equity requires the reduction of implicit bias as each patient should be regarded individually to improve care. One way to reduce implicit bias is by educating myself further on varying cultures and immersing myself within their perspectives by surrounding myself with a unique variety of individuals. Keeping my mind open to the differences in cultures and perspectives can essentially eliminate the unconscious mind from this implicit bias.

Implicit bias is also known as unconscious bias is sometimes difficult to address because this process tends to happen at a level below conscious awareness (unintentionally). At first it is difficult to address implicit bias because so many people are unaware of their prejudice towards other people, however there are many ways to counteract this thought process. Some effective ways to diminish implicit bias is to use counter-stereotypic imaging which is when you imagine a person as a opposite of the stereotype . Individuation is also helpful in this circumstance because this thought process forces one to see the person as an individual rather than seeing that person as the stereotyped group. I know sometimes in certain situations or in diffrent settings it is easy to judge or assume. At the end of the day I have to put my self in that scenario or in that persons shoes, because we never know what an individual is going through. I think reflecting is key because it gives you the chance to not judge or have an opinion towards something so quickly especially for the future.

Today, there is much more advocacy and laws Recently, there has been lots of advocacy and laws instilled into society and politics for equal rights. And as much as this has improved dramatically throughout these past decades, there is still a huge problem that we face as a collective population. Everyday, people around the world are biased towards something or someone, but there are times where it might not be intentional. Implicit bias is, “the bias in judgment and/or behavior that results from subtle cognitive processes (e.g., implicit attitudes and implicit stereotypes) that often operate at a level below conscious awareness and without intentional control.” Even if a person may not be biased intentionally doesn't mean they shouldn't make changes. One thing I can do to reduce my own implicit bias is to educate myself about other people who are different in order to understand and learn from them. Education is a beneficial way to become more open-minded with others. One way to educate oneself is to learn about others people's culture, gender, etc. Another way is through So, with more knowledge on others, it will lower the chances of implicit bias to occur. A person can be biased in many ways, this is why it is important to educate people especially those in the healthcare system because it can truly affect people's views.

The simple step we can take to reduce these biases is to give ourselves some time before passing any judgment about anyone. We need to bring maturity and Broad mindedness in our thinking as well.
