1. What are your expectations of this class?
-> I am excited for what this year has to come academically. As far as Civics, I'm not going to lie I've never been a fan of current events or history credit classes, but I hope you can change that for me this year. My goal this semester is to maintain an A. I expect to have fun, but also learn a lot of new things. :)

2. Describe your level of interest in the presidential election. Do you know yet who you would/will vote for and if so, what was important in making your choice? If not, what are you waiting to find out?
-> This years presidential election doesn't really interest me. I've never taken an interest in politics, because I honestly find it boring. I am open minded to learning more about the election this year and I have no doubts that you'll make politics seem more interesting to me this fall.

Ginsburg and O'Connor are honestly amazing in my eyes. They were put down so many times by the society of men around then. I'm not sure which of the women it was, but after she found out her nickname was 'Bitch' at school she didn't even care. She used it as motivation to get what she really wanted. If I was in her shoes, I wouldn't have the bravery to persevere. Both of these women are astounding in the fact that they had a part in getting women the rights we have today.

Decleration of Independence

1. By listening to the video, it makes the deceleration have more emotion. With all of the different people reading and the music in the background, the ideas Jefferson wrote were emphasized more than they were just reading words on a screen.

2. My favorite part of the deceleration is the beginning sections where the unalienable right are discussed. I think it's important to have a concrete statement as to what citizens God given rights are and that they can't be taken away.

I do not support an Amendment that allows the burning of the US flag. The flag is so much more than a symbol for our country. It is a symbol for our freedom and those who fought to give us that freedom. I believe burning our nations flag is an insult to the country. The only time the flag should be burned is if it is damages or torn and it needs to be disposed of properly.

Mr. Smith Reflection (1)

I enjoyed Mr. Smith goes to Washington a lot. Smith's character and attitude made the film interesting. He was seen as a nice person by the children for the governor's children were the one's who proposed to have him become a senator. The children were also the some of the only people who initially supported Smith's boy's camp bill. Adults and other senators wanted to build a dam in a river that was in the same area the boy's camp was supposed to be built. I also admire Mr. Smith's dedication and the way he stood up for what he believed in (literally). When all odds were against him he didn't let the bias of the other more experienced senators put him down. His character hands down made the movie.

Beyond the movie I believe that Mr. Smith would go far in politics. He's very sympathetic and he's no afraid to fight for what's best for the people. For this reason, I believe he'd be liked by the public, allowing to have a successful career. As far as which political party he'd belong to, I'd go with the green party because he's supporting a boy's camp (nature) and he's going against building a dam. I could see him also being a democrat because he'd be large on social issues. I can also see Mr. Smith begin very passionate about children's education because of his ties with the boy's camp. Democrats want what's newest and the best for children. To compare, Hillary Clinton supports free college tuition for students (which I think is absolutely insane), and I can see Smith supporting similar ideas.

Just like Jefferson Smith, Mark Kirk is the Junior Senator of the state of Illinois. Both Kirk and Smith support citizens of their states. Kirk for instance wants to protect veterans, prevent local gang violence, protect Great Lakes, and end cyberbulling. Now I realize back in Smiths time there wasn't any cyber activity because technology was just in its beginning, and there probably wasn't gang violence as extensive as there is now. But I do know that Smith would want to keep those in his community safe. Mark Kirk is also a large supporter of standing up for human rights. Because Jefferson Smith literally stood for a long duration of time, I would say he has the same opinion.
