I believe that the poem is about existence. The "apples" represent opportunities or important life events that we do or do not seek out. "And there's a barrel that I didn't fill". The "ladder" may represent the climb to whatever lies beyond. In my mind the poem also talks about the mental struggle of life and how exhausting it can be to truly try to live. "Of apple-picking: I am overtired

Of the great harvest I myself desired."

What I think the apple represents.

I think the apple represents the anger growing. I think the poem warns us not to plant the apple of anger because it leads to poisoned relationships. Instead we need to deal with our anger.

I think the apples represent exhaustion because the speaker talks about how tired he is and lack of energy he has. The poem states "I am drowsing off." meaning he is very tired to the point he is drowsing off. The poem also states the lack of energy he has "And there's a barrel that I didn't fill. Beside it, and there may be two or three. Apples I didn't pick upon some bough."

I believe this poem is about exhaustion and an overwhelming feeling. the poem talks about this person being drowsy and drifting to sleep. The feeling of being overwhelmed is portrayed by the person's dream."And I keep hearing from the cellar bin The rumbling sound of a load of apples coming in. For I have had too much-" could mean that the person was simply under too much pressure and maybe holding themselves up with so much on their shoulders that they finally broke.

i think that this poem is about having too many tasks to handle and that the tasks just keep coming and don't stop just because the person is so exhausted. I think the apple represents that this person is being given. "And i keep hearing from the cellar bin the rumbling sound of more apples coming in.For I have had too much-"
could mean that the person knows they are overworked and needs to take a break,

I think the apples represent tasks that the other wants to complete but he took more than he can handle now he wants to quit."there may be two or three

Apples I didn't pick upon some bough.

But I am done with apple-picking now." I see that the author of this poem. is done with apple picking and doesn't want to return like he is exhausted from picking all these apples but I believe he is talking about the tasks in his life.
