The original text displays his hero type better by giving the reader more of Santiago's background story. The text explains his humble beginnings and his desire to travel without care of what he leaves behind. The Graphic Novel on the other hand has less text about it and really doesn't show much in the illustrations about his humble beginnings and his passions.

The original version of "The Alchemist" describes things with text and details many parts of the book about as vividly as possible with the limitations of words. The original text on the other hand fails to display much emotion giving the reader a worse experience. In the resolution of the book Santiago states "You knew the whole story. You even left a bit of gold at the Monastery so I could get back to this church" (Coelho). This quote gives detail but lacks emotion so the reader could get confused on what Santiago is exactly thinking at the moment.

The graphic novel rendition of "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho gives the reader context of the story via illustration while sacrificing in-text clues. The graphic novel leaves out anything that's not extremely important and tends to leave out some text that really helps the reader connect to the story. However, it does do a really good job of giving context to the reader with pictures like in the climax when the wind said "Who taught you to speak the language of the desert and the wind?" (Coelho). The words didn't give much context to the situation but the illustrations of the wind gave the reader the ability to visualize the wind and its interaction with Santiago. This style of writing sums up most of the way the graphic novel was written.
