Symbolism

Symbolism is an image or an object that describes something and it is what it is and could possibly be more, in most cases. The symbolic nature of handcuffs send a message that this person is trapped and held captive. This can go even deeper with Lakshmi's case, she was held captive, handcuffed to a bed and forced to do things she didn't wanna do. In addition, handcuffs can also describe someone being manipulated and trapped, like she was when she couldn't leave the house and manipulated by the girls telling her "its not safe outside", and "you can't trust the American or police."

Brave- Lakshmi is a very brave girl. She was put into a house where she was forced into sex, didn't know what was going on, and she managed to survive and escape by doing whatever it takes. "Here at Happiness House, there are dirty men, old men, rough men, fat men, drunken men, sick men. I will be with them all. Any man, every man. I will become Monica. I will do whatever it takes to get out of here."

Strong- Lakshmi is a mentally strong girl. Her focus everyday was to get as much money and get out of that house. At the end, she got what she wanted and was free. "I have a regular customer now. He makes me do nasty thing for 10 extra rupees. I had a drunken customer yesterday. When he fell asleep afterward, I went through his wallet and helped myself to 20 rupees more. A deformed man came to the door today. I told him I would be with him for 50 rupees extra."

Forward- Lakshmi is a forward type of person and is not the type of person to look back on anything. She stood her ground for anything that was put in her way and got through it. She never looked back through the tough obstacles and focused on getting out. "I see my American. There are other men with him, Indian men, and the American lady from the picture. My name is Lakshmi, I say. I am from Nepal. I am fourteen years old."

These magazine covers show a female and male on the front cover who seem to be in good shape. On the woman's side, there is a subtitle that says "eat, drink, and shrink". There's a subtitle on the men's side that says "Train like the toughest man on earth" This is a social construct that tells men and women that they get way more benefits from the other subtitles and it'll benefit their lives to be lean and muscular.

Women are often discriminated against for playing or doing "boy sports". Since this happened for so long, most of society does not believe that it is right for a girl to do boxing or play football. Because of this, many girls are scared to face social construct and do what they love. Yet, there are a lot of girls who do what they love and do not care what other people think. In conclusion, this commercial challenges the social construct of women who are told not to do a certain sport that is showed here, this would help boost a girl's confidence high if they watched this, there are girls who do MMA, boxing, wrestling, baseball, football, and so much more.
