MSTEP Reward/Motivation

We have the I-Ready parade every year and can create growth goals with the I-Ready Diagnostics, but students do not know their MSTEP results. If we can access last year's MSTEP scores, can we celebrate the students who scored proficient last year with a popcorn party or FLICS bucks before this year's MSTEP so other students have incentive to score well? Maybe Performance Matters and other content areas not assessed with I-Ready can be included with that?

Only test in the morning for I-Ready

Do the same schedule change for I-Ready diagnostic as we do for M-STEP so all students can take their diagnostic in the morning. At least for K-4th grade.

We should only test in the morning. No testing after lunch.
Swap schedule to accommodate testing. AM vs PM scheduling.
ALL HANDS ON DECK!!!
Team testing: One teacher takes both classes while another pulls scholars for testing. SGI & Self-paced lessons in effect while others are testing in separate classrooms.
Incentives: Snacks, Mints, Additional recess, School-wide skating party at the end of testing.

Beyond actual test scores, give incentives for students who follow testing expectations and use pencil and paper and show they are taking their time. Maybe open gym, extra recess, a field trip or a popcorn party for students who are star test takers.

Use alternative schedule.

Schedule most of the tests AM as students perform much better in the morning vs after lunch and recess; Students are more alert in the morning. Kids who come late will be in a separate room taking the test. We can also provide make-up day for the kids who are absent.

If testing happens in the morning, accommodations will have to made as teachers would want to proctor their own students (i.e class switch- students report to morning classes in afternoon or vice versa)

Encourage practice tests online

Share resources for students to take practice tests online. Have a competition in the classroom to see how many students complete a test at home. Their parents can sign off on it.

Taking Assessment

Brain breaks (short breaks) during or after testing whether it takes place in the morning or afternoon. Provide simple snack (mints, small candy) to start the test and possible midway. Soft music during testing. 5 minutes to relax or talking BEFORE testing begins. Online assignments provided for students who finish assessment early.

We should have a prep rally the week before to help the kids get excited and ready for the upcoming tests. We did this a few year ago and it was great!
