No trip in Italy is complete without seeing the Sistine Chapel. It is an entire chapel that includes a series of murals and paintings by Old Masters like Botticelli, the iconic ceiling by Michelangelo, and the Last Judgment altar wall also painted by Michelangelo.
These are artists we covered for their impact on image and portrayal of the human form. Their art is iconic and seeing it in real life will really instill how important it was for artists to express themselves/the different things they expressed through their work.

It has been a very important place in history for hundreds and hundreds of years. It is the one in which Martin Luther was excommunicated from Pope Leo X in 1521. The 19th ecumenical council of the Roman Catholic Church, held the Council of Trent from 1545 to 1563 to fight against the Protestant reformation. The Church represents the entire religion of Catholicism which was the main basis of life for centuries as well as a great cause of conflict leading up to the Thirty Years War.
It is important to recognize the large role Catholicism played in early European history. I want to go to get a better visual of the thoughts and practices during the time. Even as someone who is not religious, the Church is a cool part of how some lived in history and today. It still holds a lot of power.

Parliament has almost always been housed within London, the last time it was held anywhere else was one time in 1681. Visiting where Parliament makes important decisions is so important to history and the actions of today. The meeting house can represent a remembrance of the English Civil War (1642 – 1651) as that was partially due to the conflict between Parliament and monarch Charles I. It established the real power Parliament held.
Visiting the Houses of Parliament also is the place where Parliament conspired to make William of Orange King in order to create a constitutional monarchy in England. The Glorious Revolution (1688) was strongly influenced by Parliament because it ensured they would have power with any monarch in power.

This is the building in which the Congress of Vienna was held in 1814-1815. Following the defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte, monarchs and diplomats from almost 200 European states, provinces, and cities went to Vienna to once again establish a balance of power in Europe. The Congress was run by Austria's diplomat, Klemens von Metternich.
I would want to visit it due to its extreme significance. It was a conservative restoration for Europe as it restored monarchs and undid all the changes made by France during Napoleon's reign.

On October 24, 2014, a Memorial for the Victims of Nazi Military Justice was added on the Ballhausplatz by Austria's President Heinz Fischer. The monument was created because approximately 10% of all victims of Nazi Military Justice were Austrians. It was made by the German artist Olaf Nicolai and features a poem by Scottish poet, Ian Hamilton Finlay, made up of the words: all alone.
That is something I had not previously known. It is sad that so many deaths occurred during the time of WWII and I like memorials honoring the memory of the people. Although sad, it is also such an interesting time for political and social ideas.

The museum was founded in 1971 to cover the history Sigmund Freud's life as well as the history of psychoanalysis. It is in a building that Freud once lived in and wrote a great deal of his writings on psychoanalysis and the subconscious. Freud is one of the most iconic people to challenge the common belief systems held within positivism; he believed something that could never be proven or observed could still effect the actions and thoughts of people and that it, in itself, was a science.
I am going to get a degree in psychology, therefore the ideas of Freud are going to be essential for my understanding of the practice. I also just love learning about the lives of other people. Everyone is so interesting.

The Holocaust Memorial is also known as the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. It is a memorial in Berlin dedicated to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. The memorial was designed by architect Peter Eisenman and opened to the public in 2005. Going there shows a recognition of all the sadness, death, and suffering that came along with the second world war.
Just as the memorial in Austria, it is sad, but also such an interesting thing to learn about. This memorial in particular is especially sensitive as Germany is where the ideas of ethnic cleansing of Jews was most prominent. It has to be viewed and respected so we, as humans, can work harder to keep it from happening again.
