I have come to understand that  there are a few constants in all history. One of those certainties is disease and injury. Studying how different cultures and civilizations cope with disease is deeply interesting. Furthermore, watching how these cultures and civilizations change overtime can reveal a great deal about the values and goals of those societies. 

While in the public school system, I doubt that I will be able to teach an entire class dedicated to this topic, but I will likely be able to incorporate information about disease and medicine into the standards I am assigned to teach. It is impossible to study history without including the influence that medicine had on the world.
