Adolescences could be coming to school feeling depressed or anxious. They don't know how to express their emotions because society is slowly improving on this topic. I suffer from depression and anxiety. I wasn't diagnosed until 2015. What has helped me is writing in journals my thoughts. It helps me clear my mind and not keep my emotions bottled up inside. I want my future students to always have a journal with them because I want them to know that they can express how they feel through writing.  I would address to my students how I won't look at their journal entries unless they want me too. Having journals in my classroom for students will help them because they won't feel like they have to keep their emotions bottled up anymore. I remember doing worksheets, writing sentences, and taking a practice test to help memorize the words. Stacy Shubitz and Lynne R. Dorfman (2019) lists other techniques besides doing spelling tests to help students improve on spelling.
