Recycling Project

Hi I'm Syna.

My friends: Nandini, Prabhleen and Trisha have come up with a project in which we can recycle stuff like paper, plastic, etc.

The idea: Students from our school (in Dubai) will collect these recyclable materials and students from your school (in Turkey) could do the same. At the end of those 6 months, we will see who collected the most number of these items and the winner gets to plant a tree sapling in their school. This way we can indulge in a healthy competition for a good cause.

We hope you like this idea, and we're looking forward for you to join us in working for this good cause!

PLASTIC TERMINATION PROJECT

Hello, we are Ronit and Arnav and we proudly present to you, the Plastic Termination Project.

Plastic is a notorious figure in the environmental sector. It takes about 500 years to decompose and when taken into the body, it can clog up the lungs or breathing mechanism of the organism and cease any form of living once taken in.

Humans are the indirect factor to the death of many animals. This includes disposal of plastic bottles in the public.

Hence we came up with this initiative to ban the use of plastic bottles in our school. We will go around the classes after a week of announcing the new rule, and if we are to find a student with a plastic bottle we will take it away and give them a styrofoam cup if you water tanks in your school, or else we could purchase a reusable and affordable bottle and sell it to the student caught with the non re-useable plastic bottle. We hope you find our idea appropriate and we look forward to work with you. ly Dubai <3.

RECYCLING PROJECT

Hello, my name is Ege. We are a group with my friends Yasmin, Duru and Yoel. As a group we thought that it is more important to make people aware of this issue rather than make a small change just in our schools. So as a group we propose the idea of working towards that goal.

The Idea: Before we start, we all could get more information about this topic and what is done by government or other school policies. To understand the drawbacks better, we also could invite an expert to get his ideas with some facts. After all that we could make posters so that people can see. We can put these posters around our school and maybe other schools as well. Most of the schools don't even have a recycling bin so we can work towards that as a start as well. Every age group has a different way of understanding what has been talked so we could dedicate a seminar in both our own schools and other schools to different age groups. If there is any way you can think of to make people more aware, we can try that with these as well. In order to make a change we have to educate people about this issue and make them aware.

We also think it would be a good idea to learn how to turn waste material to new objects such as necklaces or keychains. We could then sell these objects and use the money we earn to further our cause. We could also integrate this home recycling process into our seminars, if we were able to teach young children that they could create new things with waste material, they could be more interested and actually follow through with what we’ve taught them.

We hope you liked our idea. If we really want to make a change, it has to include education rather than just work. We are looking forward for you to join us with this project.

We feel like it is essential to raise awareness to make a change in our environment. We propose that we culminate both our ideas, so as to raise awareness and start the project by making a small change in our schools!

We hope you appreciate our suggestion, and we are able to take this project forward together

Recycling To Statues Project

Hi, my name is Selen. Me and my friends Düet and Doruk tried to come up with a simple yet creative, fun yet educational ideas for our joint project. We believe that we as students are not very aware of types of waste we produce. That's why we came up with our idea.

The idea: We will provide four recycling boxes to each floor one for each of the following, glass, paper, plastic and others (includes metal). Throughout the project, our schools will collect the products seperately from one another. Then, once we have enough materials, we will start putting materials together. For example, we'll start adding papers in a creative way that represents the size of the paper waste we are producing. So, at the end of the project we will have four models-statues each school.

In the thought process of our project our aim was to exhibit our work in our own schools, but if the conditions are possible, which I personally believe are not, we can swap our artworks between Dubai and Turkey. We hope that our idea is doable and easy and we are looking forward to hear from you!

By Saving the Beaches We Save The Planet

Hello guys, my name is Kerem. My group (me, Melin, and Elif) thought of a project regarding the current status of our oceans. Sadly our oceans are turning, into a "sea of plastic" as time passes. Six million tonnes of debris enters our oceans every year which mostly end up in the middle of the ocean floating and create the Great Pacific garbage patch (about the size of Texas). Sadly, 100,000 turtles and marine mammals, such as dolphins, whales and seals, are killed by plastic marine litter every year around the world. Currents carry these trash into our beaches. This litter can be a hazard to our environment if they are not recycled properly. Aluminium cans take at least 80 years to dissolve, plastic bottles take about 450 years to dissolve, and glass bottles 1 million years to dissolve.

The idea: Me and my friend divided the goals of this project on three main parts.

1)- In the beaches of Istanbul and in the beaches of Dubai (from my research I found out it was especially found marine reserve in Jebel Ali) there are tons and tons of litter. As a CAS "Service" and "Activity" me and my friends thought as both schools we could do some fieldwork ourselves to clean up the beaches. We could collect plastic and glass bottles and recycle them properly via proper recycling bins. Moreover, we could collect the bottle caps and tin cans to create statues(or other kinds of art) for our IB Visual Arts department and display them in our schools to raise awareness. Going to beaches and collecting litter from the ground might seem disgusting and useless at first but it isn't disgusting or useless at all. By going to the field ourselves (also publishing it in our social media platforms) and by making artwork out of the trash we have collected not only raises awareness into the issue of the marine litter but also encourages other students/kids to participate.

2)- Were are already going to raise awareness of the issue of the marine litter with our work in the field. To these ends, me and my friends thought we could take "raising awareness" into a next step. Last year our school had an excellent workshop regarding beach litters' effects on marine life in Turkish coasts. This workshop thought me things I never knew of before, so I am going to email the organization that held that amazing workshop in our school and ask them help to create a presentation of our own. Since this workshop deeply affected me and my friends I thought we could integrate the same practice into our own project. We could hold seminars to other students and make posters to raise awareness. By making posters about litters' effect on marine life not only we would persuade the audience to call to action but also we could enlighten them to care more about what they trow into trashcans or to recycling bins (since most of the items thrown into trash bins end up in the sea.)

3)- Lastly, recycling waste and raising awareness are important but they cannot fulfil our goal alone. We [students] are mortal being that have a finite amount of time to spend on beaches to collect litter. So we thought to raise funds to charities that help marine life or to charities that promote recycling. This is where the "Creativity" part of our CAS project comes in place. Both schools can devise any kinds of plans to collect money to raise funds. In the end, the gathered money would be sent to (we could decide the charity on a later date) a charity. Both schools should try to raise as much money as they can and "maybe" (this is up to our teachers) have a little competition about "who can raise the most" (like the idea that Syna, Nandini, Prabhleen, and Trisha promoted.)

To sum up, I think this project will be fruitful and accomplish many of the projected desires such as raising awareness and raising funds. I hope you liked our idea and we are waiting for your feedback!!
