This college shows the progress I made in the beginning of Art 1. In the top two drawings I didn't spend much time making them so they weren't very high quality. In the bottom two drawings my ability to shade got better and my ability to sketch things from my imagination got better. I developed my smart goals of getting better at sketching shadows.

What I learned about line weight, contour, and cross contour drawing was that when you do a blind contour drawing you don't look at your paper you just follow the outline of the object with your pencil. I practiced drawing various outlines of different shapes, and also drew 3d objects with shading.

What I learned from watching and understanding Heather Hansen's work was that drawing doesn't need to be set on a specific idea, it can be a blend of abstract ideas, and you can even use your body in various different ways to draw other than just sitting at a desk and using a pencil. What I did was draw a bunch of abstract lines with chalk. What I learned about artistic thinking was to let your mind go free and draw anything that comes to mind.

I tried to recreate what I saw in front of me. I drew 2 still lifes through a small picture frame that we made out of paper. I think it turned out decently, I definetly could have put in more work but it helped me later when I did my still life project. The item I brought was a piece of wood with my name burned into it by a magnifying glass. My planning was focused mainly on drawing the outlines of the object first then adding the small details.

I chose to create a drawing of mountains that shows how I learned to use line weight to show depth and contrast. My areas to grow were making the closer objects with thicker lines and the further objects with thinner lines. I revised by work by creating thicker lines to contrast with the thinner lines.

My object was the piece of wood with my name on it. The techniques I applied were shading because that was the main technique that we needed to focus on during this project. What I learned from this project was that if I'm doing a sketch I need to shade everything even if it's really light. My strong areas were the outlines and my areas to grow were the shading. I revised my work by Adding more darker shadows and creating more of a contrast between the lighter and darker objects.

I learned how to draw contour lines really well and I learned how to shade better. I think the class is going well since I learned some valuable art techniques. I think some goals for me for quarter 2 could be to draw people better since I've always struggled with that.
