The Criminal record bureau was set up to give access to criminal records for voluntary or employment purposes. This process is called disclosure and this is where individuals are checked for their suitability to work with children or young people. There are different levels of CRB checks these are basic, standard, and enhanced. A basic CRB check is needed for those who are working indirectly with children. A standard CRB check is needed by someone who is working in direct contact with children under direct supervision from a senior member of staff. A enhanced CRB check is needed by anyone working in direct contact with children.

This is different to a CRB check as their are no checks for those under 16 years of age. There is also more rigours police checking.

When in your care children should feel empowered. This means that they shouldn't be afraid but confident to come and speak to you about anything that might be bothering them without feeling judged. Having empowered children and young people it is vital for developing good working relationships. This can also help you suspect a case of abuse or neglect as they are more likely to come to you as they feel like they can trust you.
