1) Creating History is probably not going to be an active process for most people, but rather a passive thing, where the chance shock event will be what is recorded. 

2) Oral histories give us a direct link to the past, a window into history, a direct source. Also, I find that most histories focus on the great shifts in power, and the elite, because they have the most effect. But, as Kaitlyn kind of already says in her post, talking to a person who lived through those events, and was not one of the history making elites, provides a unique insight into the world of the common people during that time period.

Having the opportunity to write about almost anything makes it very difficult to chose what to talk about. While searching for some good sources, I didn't realize how much I truly didn't know about my topic. I enjoyed learning more about my chosen topic, and I'd honestly like to look more into it. The hardest part of writing my paper was organizing my thoughts because there was so much to cover.
2) In my paper, I would've liked to cover/look more into eugenics in Italy and how Mussolini conducted his eugenics movement. By creating history, I have learned that every person has their own story to tell.  Even when interviewing people who lived through the same event or time period, each person has a different perspective regardless. 
2. Oral histories are important because they give insight to a historical event or period of time from an individual(s) that have experienced the event. It is told by different types of people of different perspectives. When a historical document or documentary is written/told by experts who have not lived through that time period/event, that story loses what makes it personal and what humanizes that historical event.

The process of learning about "current" history (within a lifetime of us) and documenting it , it much harder, especially getting people to open up and reveal what they have experienced within their lifetimes. 

2)Oral History is so important because the experiences of people close to us give us a better understanding and connection to the past of normal, average people rather than the broad strokes, most influential characters of any historical event. Which provides more personal and impactful history, no one really cares or feels emotionally connected to any tragedy, like the aids epidemic or the holocaust unless they hear the direct experiences of those who lived it and survived it. I have learned that researching history can be very tedious depending on what the topic is. For example, when searching for details and stories that have not been studied a lot, they were incredibly difficult to find - as well as being time consuming. Because it was difficult finding credible resources, it was also a challenge trying to find ways to organize the essay and which information should be announced before other information.
2. In the future, I would have liked to add in what effects the present would have if minorities did not participate in D-Day. While researching history, I've learned that narrowing down a topic is surprisingly difficult. I also learned that organizing my thoughts is easy if I solidify my resources, quotes, and ideas in a document. Selecting resources was challenging since the databases through Cuyamaca were difficult to navigate. I also ran into an issue of not being able to access my resources, which was also a challenge. 

2. In my paper I mainly focused on musical development and impact in the 1950s and 60s, leaving out many other decades that have left a lasting impact on history.   • From conducting the interview, I learned that the process of creating history, in regards to accurate documentation, can be very difficult to do after the event has passed. The loss of memory is inevitable but I also noticed that our minds tend to internalize or “lock away” some of the most impactful memories because they are negative. For instance, when I asked my grandmother about the struggles she faced in her life, she insisted that she didn’t have any, despite her growing up poor, being a teen mom, and losing her son. 
  • Oral histories are important because they act as first hand accounts to the past, demonstrating how historical events influenced people on a personal level and offering insight into the authentic everyday lives that people lived; they offer a perspective that can’t be found in other sources like textbooks or scholarly articles.

When researching for my history paper, it was really important for me to find a topic that I was interested in to keep me motivated in writing the paper. The music industry is something that I'm really passionate about, and I thought it would be good to connect it to our history course by researching the racial discrimination intertwined through it. It was a little hard for me to find resources initially, but I found it easier to be really specific with my searches to find exactly what I was looking for. For instance, looking up 'discrimination in the music industry' brought up a lot of  discrimination concerning genders and broader topics, so I got more creative with searches like 'Elvis Presley controversy with song covers' or something along those lines. I found my outline really daunting as my thoughts were scattered, so organizing my paper to focus on one very specific topic (how Black artists have been undermined) was easier for me to expand upon. 
    2. I definitely should've included more direct evidence as well as citations as far as grammatically improving my paper.
