2. Outline/Addressing of Question: The causes and effects of the pro-slavery and abolitionists groups' resulted in multiple disputes. It caused many issues and differences. The pro-slavery groups wanted slavery to remain and to expand to other states (other than the South). The abolitionists wanted slavery to end, altogether. Both acknowledged that they must influence the newer states, as expansion began. If they influence the newer states, then they could get more states to be on their side. An example is from 1855-1856, following the Kansas-Nebraska Act. After the separation of Kansas and Nebraska, Kansas was likely to be a slave state. There was a lot of political issues in Kansas, between the pro-slavery and abolitionists groups. Eventually, six abolitionists, led by John Brown, murdered five pro-slavery settlers. This bloody event was known as the Potawatomie Massacre. The example was found on Page #356.

2. Outline/Addressing of Question: Both the North and South feared or felt threatened by each other because of each side's power over the federal government and legislature. An example can be from the Election of Lincoln. In this election, it was between the Republicans and the Southern Democrats. Each side had its own idea, regarding slavery. Both sides sought to attract more interest over the other. The consequences of the election, that followed, were a prolonged bloody war between both sides. This war caused both sides more than a century of conflict, convincing them that they shared no common ground with each other. The example was found on Page #361.

He thought that the federal government could determine whether or not these territories become free or slave states. The issue was that when the territory became a state, that it would fight for its own choices. The state would want to choose if it were to be a free or slave state. In the North, they believed in "free soil" and "free labor". They believed that slavery was a moral evil and was not right. In the South, they believed that slavery and labor was important. The South opposed Northern Capitalism. The differing ideas is an example of the "Free-Soil" Ideology. The changes in pro-slavery and anti-slavery strengthened the differences between the North and South, causing more issues and conflict. The example is from Page #357.
