In my opinion Samsung Galaxy Note 7 have problem in it's battery. It may explode. The Galaxy Note 7 recall has severely damaged the firm, but it was revealed this week that so-called 'safe' Note 7 replacements, those marked with a black box and a green battery indicator, are also exploding. That’s right. Samsung hasn’t yet admitted that the device that caused a Southwest Airlines flight to be evacuated was a new one unaffected by the recall, but all signs point to the firm having failed to identify the real problem causing handsets to catch fire, explode and burn six-year-old children.

When several Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones spontaneously exploded in August, the South Korean company went into overdrive. It urged hundreds of employees to quickly diagnose the problem. None were able to get a phone to explode. Samsung’s engineers, on a tight deadline, initially concluded the defect was caused by faulty batteries from one of the company’s suppliers.
Samsung, which announced a recall of the Note 7 devices in September, decided to continue shipping new Galaxy Note 7s containing batteries from a different supplier. The solution failed. Reports soon surfaced that some of the replacement devices were blowing up too.

Even before Samsung announced it was ceasing production of the Galaxy Note 7, its South Korea-traded shares fell more than 8 percent, its biggest daily drop since 2008, knocking $17 billion off the company’s market value. Strategy Analytics, a research firm, had estimated earlier that Samsung could lose more than $10 billion because of the phone’s problems.

Samsung has killed the Galaxy Note 7. It is writing off $2.3 billion in the three quarter measurement due to the cancellation of the highly touted phone. From my perception, it was a smart, wise and cost-effective decision. Samsung sacrificed the Note 7 to save the company. The decision was not about the Note 7 itself, but about the brand and the company’s relationship with its customers. It is bigger than one product.

A company’s brand is the promise it makes to the customer. The depth of the brand is how it keeps that promise. We know that every brand makes mistakes. It’s how a company chooses to deal with those mistakes that can maintain — or demolish — its credibility.

Samsung is a huge, multinational company with products, programs, and services across many market segments. It rolled out the Galaxy Note 7 with much hype and fanfare, only to quickly find out it had a problem. Some of the phones caught fire or exploded. That was not the sizzling type of launch it was seeking. Early on it thought it was a simple issue of a battery vendors which delivered an inferior product. Simple fix, right? Not so, because the replacement phones with the new battery had the same problem. It was then made clear that Samsung didn’t know the root of the problem.

With consumers, airlines and regulators all engaged, Samsung had a choice: Continue to try to find out what’s wrong, perhaps by troubleshooting and risk issuing recall after recall? Or, does it step up and decide that the cost of trying to save the Note 7 is not worth risking the entire Samsung brand? It took the second road.

Clearly, Samsung had a lot of investment in this product. The timing couldn’t have been better for its rival, Google, (not Apple in my opinion) which was fresh off the launch of its new Pixel phones. Since the Pixel phones and Samsung’s Note 7 run the same operating system, some believe that the Pixel is the biggest beneficiary of the Note 7’s demise. This was not an easy decision for Samsung, but I think it made it fairly quickly, based on how these things go.

Moving forward, Samsung will undoubtedly focus on quality control throughout its supply chain and at every step of the product development cycle. These steps will make up key message points in its branding and public statements in the future. It will stay away from the safety issue and focus on the process improvement and quality control issue.

According to ZDnet, Samsung has received a total of 26 “false reports” from apparent Note 7 customers since the global recall began on September 2.

Of these 26 reports, Samsung only actually received 12 handsets, none of which were faulty. In a further seven of the cases, Samsung was not able to reach the supposed victim. And the remaining seven alleged customers either cancelled the complaint, or purported to have thrown their handset away.

Here’s a breakdown of false reports by country:

USA – 9

South Korea – 3

France – 2

UK – 1

Canada – 1

Singapore – 1

Turkey – 1

Vietnam – 1

Croatia – 1

Romania – 1

Iraq – 1

Lebanon – 1

United Arab Emirates – 1

Czech Republic – 1

The most unique feature that comes equipped with the Galaxy Note 7 is the S Pen. But the stylus only adds a few new features with Samsung’s latest offering– new Air Command functions, for example, lets users hover over text to magnify or translate it. The Korean company is also adding a “unified” app called Samsung Notes where you’ll be able to create handwritten notes, draw, and edit memos all in one place. When you select the brush tool in Notes, the colors will blend as if they were oil paint, making the digital painting experience more realistic on the Note 7.

The pen itself has a slightly smaller 0.7mm tip, which makes writing feel more natural, and Samsung says it also has improved pressure sensitivity. The stylus is also IP68-rated, so you can take it under up to a meter of water for 30 minutes alongside the Galaxy Note 7 in case you wanted to do some sketching at the pool.

Now here’s where the Note 7 gets a little more interesting. If you thought fingerprint scanners just started to catch on, you may be seeing a flourish in iris scanners soon. That’s right, the Note 7 is one of the first flagship smartphones to come packed with an iris scanner. It’s certainly not a first, but it’s not even the first from Samsung itself — no, that title is held by the Samsung Tab Iris.

So the Note 7 packs a fingerprint scanner and an iris scanner, and Samsung says both can be used interchangeably. You’ll be able to authenticate Samsung Pay purchases with the iris scanner, the company says, and developers will be able to optimize their apps to use the iris scanner, though that may take a while.
