Current Situation: The thousands of families who are being detained in prison-like facilities along the Mexican border.  

The Church teaches the same principles of immigration (in Article 13 of our book), everyone is entitled to the same human rights.

Current Situation: Here in America, some states, such as Texas, have the death penalty.  This is cruel and unusual punishment and should not be tolerated.

The Church teaches that human life is sacred and a gift from God; it is not something we should be able to physically terminate or torture.  Article 13 states that the right to life is the basis of all other rights.

We can help this cause by leading protests against the death penalty and cruel punishment.

Current Situation: Some people are being discriminated against simply because of their religion, such as Islam.

The Church teaches us that all people have rights, and just because they are of a certain religion does not mean we get to discriminate against them.  We can not look down on poor Muslim families just because we may "think" that they are dangerous.

They have the right to form a family because the family is the fundamental group unit of society, and that family is entitled to protection by the country.

Current Situation: Some people in other countries are being forced into marriages, which goes against the Church's teaching.  Even in this country, there are families who are not receiving equal protection by the government.  We all deserve protection.

In Article 12 of our book, it states that society needs to ensure that basic necessities are available to all families, regardless of their economic value.

We can help this cause by portraying family life in a positive way and leading by example so that other families may look at us and live Christ-like.

Current Situation: Too many people are living in poverty, even here near the city of Chicago.

Article 14 states that no person has the right to keep making money when other people lack money and basic necessities.
