It is not safe to drink raw milk.
"A Survey of Foodborne ... in Pennsylvania" cites that 10.5% of raw milk samples out of 248 samples contain pathogenic organisms (e.g. Salmonella). HOWEVER, the study does not show us if pasteurized milk has 0% pathogens, and we don't know if you necessarily get sick from eating small amounts of these pathogens from the raw milk.
"Pasteurization: Implications ... Nutrition" report 29 states have records of disease outbreak caused by consuming raw milk. This is more direct evidence that raw milk causes disease, although this is related to not washing the cow itself and not the milk (e.g. milking process). We didn't see methods, but it comes from the CDC, so I assume their info is correct.

We believe that raw milk is unsafe regardless of taste preference or accessibility to cow. Under current diary processing standards pasteurization is still the safest and easiest process in ensuring lowering pathogenic capabilities. According to Pasteurization: Implications for Food Safety and Nutrition, research has shown that pasteurization does not alter the nutritional value in milk. According to the survey of foodborne pathogens in bulk tank milk, dairy farmers in particular are at risk for exposure to these food borne illnesses since they are most likely to consume raw milk.

Based on the evidence we read, raw milk is bad to consume. First article (Survey of Foodborne Pathogens): There was a study done on diary producers in PA. Just about half of the dairy farmers who participated consumed raw milk...but that's because of convenience and they didn't know that the milk was bad for them. In this study they found 10.5% of the samples had bacteria in it.
Second article (Pasteurization): The other article had a lot of daunting statistics that included hospitalizations because they consumed unpasteurized (raw) milk...but the methods are not cited. Therefore the evidence is questionable.
