Each day I will track my progress to demonstrate that I am meeting the goal for each day. The goal is twofold: 1. I must leave my room and study on campus. For the first goal, I will demonstrate I have left my room by posting a picture of where I ended up 2. Complete one paragraph a day. In the event that I am struggling, then this goal will shift to working for a minimum of an hour on the essay for that day. To demonstrate I have complete this goal, I will post the paragraph once it is completed or the work I have completed in the hour if that situation arises. Besides tracking my goal I will also post about any struggles I am experiencing. This is where you all come in. When this happens, please offer encouragement or advice on overcoming the roadblock. ADL is designed to remedy discrimination based on a single attribute, like race. Yet this narrow construction blinds the law from recognizing and remedying instances where discrimination contravenes more than one protected attribute,. For example, in the American case Moore v Hughes Helicopters, Inc, the claimant, a black woman alleged that their/the employer Hughes Helicopter, discriminated both on their sex and race in/practiced both sex and race discrimination in not promoting them to higher value positions. If applied to the current ADL legislation in the UK, namely the Equality Act 2010, the claimant in Moore could not claim that she was discriminated against because she was a black woman. She would have to choose between the two attributes and claim discrimination occurred only based on sex or race. Yet not only does this singular application undermine her unique experience but it undermines the validity of the case. The comparator for a single attribute would only succeed if statistical evidence of hiring rates were similar.  For example, if the attribute was race the compartor would be black men. If it was demonstrated that black men were hired at higher rates than black women then the case would fail as it would be concluded that discrimination did not occur based on race. Krenshaw is correct when she states that ‘’the representation of discrimination is partial and distorted’’. Intersectionality is the tool that presents the full set of facts. It demonstrates that the discrimination a black woman experiences is unique and occurs because the experience of being black and being a woman intersect creating a unique set of circumstances they must navigate.  Profoundly it demonstrates that the law is willing to treat one injustice but not the others, you are impacted by multiple sources but the law leaves you to fend for yourself.
