Climber for a day

It was a sunny February afternoon when I went to Ivoti with a few coworkers from the school I used to work with. Back in the day, I used to work as a Drawing teacher. My coworker Matheus was an Engineering teacher and a professional climber too. He drove us to Ivoti and gave us the materials we needed to climb. It was my first time climbing and I was a little bit scared.

When I started to climb, I noticed it was more difficult than it looked. I was using ALL of my strenght but it wasn't enough. That's the moment I realized climbing is not a strenght sport, it's a strategy sport.

If I wanted to be a good climber, I didn't have to be strong, I would have to breathe and find the details: Holes, places on the rock where I could put my hands and feet.

On one hand, I learned that sometimes the difficulties can be even bigger than you expect. On the other hand, I learned that by breathing and focusing on the present moment, you can figure out how to deal with the most difficult things.

It can sound corny, but it's true!

Teacher Aline
