the persona describes his feelings towards the children by telling us their behaviour and what they did to the persona. He knew that they don't want to be his friend, and keep bullying the persona to tell him stop coming towards them. He feels sad but no one knows, just have to keep it in.

( was that right ??? )

The writer used visual imagery to describe the pain of the 'Old Amah'. It is evidenced in lines 5 to 12, where the writer used words such as old newspapers, spittoon, old photographs, moth fluttering against the electric bulb and others. This signifies that the author applied these words to form an image in our mind, so that we understand the meaning of the poem.

The author used metaphor in the poem to emphasize the importance of diligence. This can be seen in Stanza 4, line 1, where it says "No, the red woolly hat has not been put on the railing to keep it warm". This shows that the author is trying to tell his son to do things thoroughly and well, by using an example to illustrate the lesson that the author wants to tell his son.

the poet imagery and descriptive words to tell the reader about the behaviour of the children in the streets. This can be clearly seen throughout the poem as it is the main idea of the poem. Phrases like 'threw words like stones' and ' feared the salt coarse pointing at those boys' gives us an image that the children are naughty, free, likes trouble and picks on others who are outnumbered or smaller. To exaggerate even more, the last line of the poem shows that the children does not forgive the poet.

The persona uses imagery to describe the pain and the sufferings of the ‘Old Amah’. We can see line 5, the persona uses ‘flame’ and ‘brambles’. The living condition of the ‘Old Amah’ is bad, this is evident in lien 6 and 7, words such as old newspapers and spittoon described her living condition. And also 8 and 9, sentences such as waste of terror, crumbling of your body’s wall also described her living condition. This indicates that the ‘Old Amah’ is suffering and pain and this means the family did not take good care of her.
