         <description><![CDATA[<p>- Sheng: refers to the main male role. </p><p>- Dan: are all female roles which historically have only been played by men until the mid to late twentieth century. </p><p>- Jing: is a face painted male role, they can be the primary or secondary characters and will need an incredibly strong authoritative voice and be able to exaggerate their features more than other characters. </p><p>-Chou: The clown role will typically be a secondary character and can range from jailers and merchants to minor military characters. </p>]]></description>

Not only was he a great performer but his work helped refine what the genre of the opera. His style of performing left the audiences stunned, his dance was described as elegant and rigorous, and his singing was called pure and strong. </p>]]></description>
