Hello, I am Bilge. I would like to thank my project co-founder and project partners with whom we worked on the project. We worked together in harmony and cooperation. In the project, my students became more sensitive and aware of the environment. I am proud to guide my students towards scientific and innovative thinking skills. It was very enjoyable to see the excitement on their faces in the studies we did about the environment. Thanks to this project, they had the opportunity to meet students and teachers from different countries for the first time and I am happy to have achieved this.

In the 2024-2025 school year, I participated with my students in the eTwinning Project "The Digital Journey of Waste", initiated by Professor Bilge Arslan from Turkey.

This project was a challenge, both for the students and for me, because it was going to empower the curiosity and passions of my students and mine.

Together with partners from Turkey, Italy, Tunisia, Greece, Romania,Poland ,Jordan we had many interesting activities.

Our project started in November and ended in May. Our project is about the digital journey of environmental sustainability.

           Our project aims:

            -To educate students on the importance of being responsible digital citizens while addressing environmental sustainability;

-To explore the intersection of technology and environmental action, using digital tools to promote green initiatives and raise awareness about global environmental challenges.

The invitation for the students in the class I teach to take the first steps in the Twinspace of the upcoming project was unexpected. I can almost see their eyes twinkling and beaming with joy when they learned about the "THE DIGITAL JOURNEY OF WASTE" project and we confirmed our participation together.

After talking about etiquette and online safety rules, we began our exploration. 27 teachers from Romania, Turkey, Italy, Poland, Greece, Tunisia,Jordan filled out their about page and the project logo was chosen.

The project contributed to stimulating students' creativity. Students increased their self-confidence, planned their own strategies for solving a problem or approaching a challenge. They chose their own resources and work strategies.

The use of web tools has had an impact on both my students and me as a professional development. Together with my students, I learned to use more advanced technology, we became familiar with and applied a variety of tools and applications, such as Voila, Canva, CapCut, Google Docs, Kahoot, Google Maps, Google Earth, Jingsav, Storyjumper ,thinglink, genially web2, kahoot,etc...

I collaborated beautifully with Professor Bilge Arslan-Turcia, the founder of this extraordinary project. The 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) indicators, as well as the project itself, will be a long-term lesson for my students.

Based on this, learning based on an eTwinning project is for students not only a motivation to participate in the formation of their own personality, but also a training model, which involves them in greening activities, recycling, solving serious problems that the entire planet is facing.

The eTwinning project,, The Digital Journey of Waste” led to increased involvement of me, my students and improved learning outcomes for all. to promote green initiatives and raise awareness of global environmental challenges.

Participating in this project was a challenge - for students and teachers alike, including parents - offering us the chance for a valuable learning experience and a new educational approach aimed at broadening the horizon of knowledge and stimulating the desire for continuous learning, while contributing to promoting the school's image.

Thank you for being part of this project!!!

Participating in this eTwinning project has been an extremely enriching experience, both professionally and personally. Collaboration with fellow teachers was smooth, inspiring, and full of innovative ideas. The students showed remarkable enthusiasm and developed not only their language skills but also their cultural awareness. I would like to warmly thank all the founder, the co founder and the partners I look forward to taking part in similar initiatives in the future!

What particularly stood out to me was the positive impact the project had on students' behavior regarding environmental protection. Through the various activities, they became more aware of current ecological challenges and showed increased sensitivity toward the importance of adopting eco-friendly habits in their daily lives. Several initiatives were even launched at the school level, such as waste sorting, reducing plastic use, and creating awareness posters. This shift in attitude is, in my opinion, one of the greatest successes of the project.

The eTwinning project “The Digital Journey of Waste” has come to an end with great satisfaction from all participants. It has been an extremely interesting and engaging experience, full of creative and diverse activities that successfully combined environmental education with the use of digital tools. Students were actively involved throughout the project and showed great enthusiasm in exploring the topic of recycling and sustainability in innovative ways.

One of the main strengths of the project was the opportunity for students to discover and use new digital applications, which helped them develop both their ICT and language skills. English was the main language of communication, providing an authentic context for improving reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities. Collaborating with peers from different European countries allowed students to open their minds to new cultures and ways of thinking, fostering both personal and educational growth.

Families also expressed their appreciation and support for the initiative. Many parents noted how valuable it was to see their children involved in such a meaningful international project. The combination of teamwork, creativity, and real-life application made this project truly enriching. It was not only a journey through the world of waste and recycling, but also a journey of discovery, collaboration, and language improvement.

Here is a video with some of my students expressing their thoughts about this project as it was their first experience of this kind.

Taking part in the project The Digital Journey of Waste through eTwinning has been a truly enriching experience — both personally as an educator and for my students as young learners and global citizens. This project reminded me of the power of collaboration and innovation in education. Through eTwinning, I was able to connect with fellow educators across Europe, Turkey or Tunis, exchange ideas, and co-create meaningful digital content focused on sustainability. It deepened my understanding of digital pedagogy and encouraged me to integrate environmental themes into the curriculum more effectively.

Professionally, it pushed me beyond the traditional classroom. Coordinating virtual meetings, overseeing students’ creative digital outputs, and working within an international context were both challenging and energizing. I gained valuable skills in digital literacy, project management, and intercultural communication. For my students, this project was a journey in every sense — educational, digital, and emotional. It opened their eyes to the environmental impact of waste and the importance of personal responsibility. They didn’t just learn about sustainability; they lived it — by designing campaigns, creating digital posters, and collaborating with peers from other countries.

They practiced using English in authentic contexts, enhanced their digital skills, and learned to work as part of a diverse team.

Our participation in the European eTwinning project focused on the environment and especially on recycling was a highly positive and creative experience for both the children and us as educators. The program provided students with the opportunity to become more aware of environmental issues, understand the importance of recycling, and adopt more responsible attitudes toward the natural world.

Through interdisciplinary activities, hands-on actions, and collaboration with other European schools, the children developed skills such as observation, teamwork, creativity, and communication. The effective use of digital tools (such as presentations, videos, e-posters, and collaborative tasks via Twinspace) further enhanced their digital literacy and engaged them actively in the learning process.

Collaboration with schools from other countries allowed our students to see how children in different parts of Europe take care of their environment and to exchange ideas and good practices. This intercultural dimension helped strengthen the understanding that protecting the environment is a global responsibility and that everyone—regardless of age or location—can make a difference.

As an educator, I believe that this project made a significant contribution to fostering environmental awareness, responsibility, and active citizenship in young learners. The exchange of ideas and collaboration with other educators was also a valuable opportunity for professional growth.

In conclusion, this project is considered highly successful, with a meaningful impact on environmental education and the promotion of European cooperation and cultural exchange. We look forward to participating in future eTwinning projects with similar themes.

The eTwinning project “The digital journey of waste” represented an important opportunity for interdisciplinary and collaborative learning for the fourth grade, consolidating the interest already shown by the students in the previous year and opening up new perspectives for the future. The students showed strong motivation, participating with enthusiasm. They were able to use digital tools to create multimedia content, concretely improving their digital and active citizenship skills, but also teamwork, creativity, communication and civic awareness. The topic of waste and its cycle stimulated critical reflection on the environment and sustainable behavior, both at school and at home. The comparison with peers from other countries broadened the cultural horizons of the students, encouraging openness to diversity and communication in English in an authentic and motivating way. Being an active part of an international project increased their self-confidence and the perception of their active role in change. The teachers involved were able to experiment with new innovative teaching methodologies, based on collaboration, problem solving and project-based learning. The comparison with colleagues from other countries has encouraged the exchange of good practices and the creation of stimulating professional relationships, has allowed us to strengthen the European dimension of teaching and improve collaborative planning at a distance. Integrating eTwinning activities with the ordinary school curriculum required careful organization and sometimes it was necessary to review the programming to ensure significant participation. Maintaining a good balance between the enthusiasm of the students and the sustainability of the project, in terms of time and energy, was an aspect to be monitored carefully throughout the process.

In conclusion, the desire expressed by the students to participate in a new eTwinning project next year is a clear sign of the educational effectiveness of the experience.

The Digital Journey of Waste has been an inspiring and rewarding experience for everyone involved. Through collaboration, creativity, and the use of engaging digital tools, our students explored important topics such as sustainability, responsible technology use, and cultural awareness. They didn’t just learn—they connected, shared, reflected, and grew.

As teachers, we are proud to have guided our pupils through this meaningful journey, watching them develop essential 21st-century skills while building friendships across borders. The project encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and active citizenship, all within a fun, student-centered learning environment.

We are grateful to all our partner schools for their collaboration, support, and shared vision. A big thank you also goes to the students and their families for their enthusiasm and commitment. Although this project is ending, the lessons we’ve learned and the memories we’ve made will continue to have a lasting impact.

Let this be just the beginning of many more digital and environmental journeys together! 🌍💻♻️
