When he first meets Jack and Jacks family he doesn't trust them. I think that has to do with his past. He's used to violence and thinks that everyone he meets wants to pick a fight with him, and doesn't just want to be his friend. But it seems that after awhile once he gets to know the person he starts to trust them just a little bit.
