The list is student centered and focused on student success. I believe that a student's family should have equal involvement in their student's educational journey and goal creation, and this article promotes this concept heavily.

I think that this resource is useful for figuring out how to engage parents post-covid and find new ways of connecting with students' families. It also discusses the concept of building trust with parents, which I think is vital to student success in the classroom.

This resource is useful for understanding the value of finding meaningful and culturally appropriate ways to encourage families to take initiative in supporting their student's learning and development in school. There are a variety of articles that discuss strategies for facilitating relationships with families and the surrounding community as well as the impacts that those relationships have on a students education such as higher academic achievement, more motivation, and better attendance. Having a strong and positive relationship with families as well as the community is such an important part of a students education, I believe that not only is education important for learning curriculum but it is the foundation of fostering effective members of society, which cannot happen in a vacuum. It is crucial to build those relationships and supports for each individual to help them succeed. I also like that this website includes state profiles to observe data and find state-specific resources.

It's important for teachers to communicate and reach out to the parents of their student's as it's a two way street so that if the teacher doesn't reach out, the parents might be less likely to reach out. It's also important to provide opportunities or ways for parents to be included in their child's education such as volunteering, events, conferences.

This source uses many different teachers that give ideas to each other to let everyone know what they should do. They give examples in Parent teacher conferences, parent teacher conversions, home routines and more. This is a good source to look at because it give many different ideas and thoughts about family and teacher engagement.

I thought this article was very eye-opening in that it pointed out the importance of the same messages being sent to kids at home and at school. If kids are always being held to the same expectations, they are more likely to succeed. This all starts with constant, quality communication between teachers and parents.

This resource focus on tips and strategies for teachers to develop strong and positive relationships with parents. I though this was very helpful and is something I will definitely use when I become a teacher. One specific strategy that stood out to me is to communicate often and in various forms. By reaching out on a regular basis, you are able to build a relationship with parents that centers around the positives their child is displaying, not just the negatives. It is also important to communicate over the phone or in person at times rather than only over email. Sometimes it is hard to gauge a persons tone over email, so speaking in person or on the phone eliminates these possible misunderstandings.

This resource contains multiple articles written by a diverse selection of educators and experts. They "describe specific practices, structural changes, and mindset shifts that school leaders and educators can use to better connect with, support, and learn from students' families." They focus, in particular, on how we can strengthen relationships with families from racial and socio-economic groups that have tended to be discounted in schools.

I appreciated the discussion of the need to create real, genuine partnerships rather than the more conventional one-sided conversation that most teacher-family 'partnerships' entail. Articles in this resource stress the need to co-construct reciprocal relationships with shared responsibility, which "may require greater humility and deeper forms of outreach on the part of educators." The underlying belief behind this mindset is that in order to best support our students, we must get to know their families, create a shared picture of student goals and needs, and collaboratively engage in activities such as problem solving. Our students are best supported when we, as educators, work as a team with families.

I also found a chart within the article "Co-Constructing Family Engagement" to be very helpful. The chart is titled "Shifting the Narrative for Better Family-Teacher Meetings." The goal of the chart is to help educators move beyond "time-held assumptions and biases and broaden their thinking." On one side of the chart, are five common assumptions and, on the other side, are five counter narratives. The chart also discusses the topic of true partnerships, saying that newsletters and other forms of "unidirectional communication can further marginalize groups of students. We must connect, build, and actively partner," which can be done through "brainstorming, problem solving, and joint solution building."

Overall, some very interesting articles. I would highly recommend this resource.
