In Vietnam, there seems to be only two seasons: hot or rainy. Vietnam’s weather does nothing by halves. When it is hot, it is stankin’ hot!

And when it rains, it buckets!

Rains here are torrential and a hardship if you get caught in a storm; I was reminded of that just yesterday when my wife and I braved the rain on our scooter. Our short, 5-minute drive home from school is always an Odyssey during thunderstorms. The pelting rain stings my eyes and makes it nearly impossible to see. Nguyen Van Linh turns into a torrent, and drivers who are already “challenged” become boulders in the water, objects that all the other scooters are trying to get around safely.

My wife and I made it home with little more than a bit of road rage, but somewhere along the way, my rain poncho had ripped up the left side, leaving me soaked from the hip down! So yes, the rain here is intense and is something you don’t want to get caught in...especially on a scooter.

However, a thunderstorm when you are warm, dry, and safely indoors, is another thing altogether.

The reverberating thunder, the lightning cracking helter-skelter across the sky, and the sound of the rain assaulting the windows - sometimes sounding link needles tapping on glass and other times like marbles - are white noise soothing me and massaging the stress from my day.

Rainy days are meant for somnolence, for lazing on the couch and drifting in and out of sleep with a cat curled into your side.

Rainy days are for reading until your eyes get heavy, or for doing crosswords until your pencil needs sharpening.

Rainy days are for rejuvenation. For storing up some peace and serenity so you have reserves when you need to get back out there and face the ubiquity of Covid.

Rainy days are the wellness that everyone could use a little more of these days. They should be appreciated and embraced...preferably while ensconced in a duvet!

My Reflection

So I have seen people who do not enjoy their life that they have. Sometimes when I am walking I see people not enjoying something that maybe their parents worked hard for, for example a familie is at a really expensive resort. The kids are ackinting really bad around and to their parents. I mean your at a really expensive hotel why not just give your parents some slack. They did all this hard work to get you here and now you are acting like a toddler. I personally think that you should be happy with your life. Imagine have a different life, where you might live with a poor family where you only live on like $5 a day and you have to work in the field to get food. If you think about it that way then you might realize that you have a good life. There are some kids out there that do not have a roof over their head.

They might not have money to buy them food or they have to walk around in the street all day just to make $5 dollars for the whole day. Imagine living like that. You would not last that long. That is why you should love you parents for working so hard to let you travel or get you things that other kids would dream of.

It was 7 years ago, when I came into my very first toy shop ever with my parents, the toy that attracted me was not the elegant doll nor pretty barbie, nor fast cars.

It was LEGO.

I immediately begged my dad for this toy - just a simple box with lego pieces which build into three large 2-levels malls with many tiny figures. They were all about the size of three-quarters of my pinky but it was the best toy I’ve ever had. All of the HUMONGOUS places were suddenly just shrank into figures where you can simply see it just in a glimpse !!! Chairs, tables, elevators, cars, people, pets, clothes, everything was all just shrank into a petite form which created a glamorous scenery where you could see everything in a simple glance.

LEGO has helped me to defeat the boring time when no one is around. When the LEGO time start, everything around me just completely shut down … Then, it was just me and my lego pieces. I would focus and build many COLOSSAL buildings such as houses or cafe shops as I could which eventually turned into a big city where you could have just a short, small glance of my ENTIRE neighborhood. Even though people say that look at “real objects” would be more interesting, but then building your own creative cities and towers is much more exciting for me !

We all know swimming is a nice way to relax and chill out. But when its raining? Oh my, it is a whole new experience. Letting the raindrops hit your upper body and trickle down your arms. The sound and ambience of the rain splashing as it makes contact with the water. The small rays of light peeking and seeping through the dark gray sky reflecting off of the marbling glassy water.

Although swimming is nice, it is nowhere near swimming in the rain’s level. Sometimes you just need a little break from work or school. Float atop the cool water and embrace the droplets of water that are willingly ready to fall on you.

(Not done)

My Reflection

I think something that is overlooked or under-appreciated is biking at night. As I biked around your neighborhood, it is extremely peaceful as it is quiet and chill. The wind blowing in my face as you start to increase your speed, the coldness is quite comforting. I would try go 1,000km/h and there's no one there to stop me. The sounds of the bike gear rattling as you bike around. Seeing everyone’s houses dark as they start to sleep and get ready for tomorrow’s day.

My favorite thing is to visit the 24/7 convenience store and get a late night snack. As you sit there and look into the night sky, you hear the chirping of the crickets, a motorbike passes by every so often, at night, everything just seems better and more comforting.

Something I would do when I visit the convention store is make some instant noodles. I would buy them for 5.000 vnd and would make it on the spot as they give you free hot water. Putting in the seasoning packet, watch as the water change color and springs into life with flavor, taking in the first bite, the warmth it gives you in the cold night. It may be spicy but the flavor makes it worth.

When I was 10, I used to live in a pretty small neighborhood. My parents weren’t closed with anyone there so they prevented me from going outside to play with the neighbors’ kids. However, as the rebellious child I used to be, I of course didn’t listen to them.

I snuck out almost every night to hang out with this one girl named Ngoc. She was actually a really good kid, had good grades, nice to everyone and always listened to her parents. Her parents were also good people, they weren’t strict on their only daughter so she was able to go out almost at anytime.

As I snuck out that one night, I grabbed my toys to showed Ngoc. She didn’t have any toys as a kid cause her parents weren’t that wealthy. We met in front of the

convenience store at the front of our neighborhood. She excitedly wave at me with a smirk to signal that she was earlier than me.

Okay I know this is wrong but growing up with strict parents, I would literally strive for freedom and friends. Which is why to me, that night was so gorgeous, I felt such a strong breeze of pleasure down my body.

Something I find underappreciated or overlooked is feeling or seeing the drive back home after a long day on the road trip. You get that exciting feeling rushing out as you see the familiar buildings and trees the closer you get to home. This is better if you went somewhere unfamiliar or somewhere outside your country. When you get in front of your door and just opened it, the familiar smell hits your nose as soon as you step in your house.

(Not Done)

I think that despite all the universal hate for airplane food, it serves a very important role in air travel.

There's a common misconception that airplane food is gross and unhygienic, it all simply isn't true (most of the time). Airplane food caters follow strict guidelines for safety and with the rise of Covid its a shame that airplane food is being reduced to some chips. Airport food is overpriced and with the long security lines despite going to the airport early it always seems that you end up rushing to your plane, without having enough time to grab a bite. I feel like people are just hopping on the trend of hating on airplane food, it doesn't even taste that bad and im sure you wouldn't like to substitute your breakfast, lunch or dinner with a plastic cup of water.

Especially with domestic flights not being to short for lunch service. Despite air travel re opening, airplane food services seems to be grounded for now unless absolutely necessary. Over spring break I flew a 1 hour flight that used to serve rice with chicken meat but now it has been replaced by a glass of water or coca cola.

People would buy it and eat for a lot of reasons but mostly it would be for satisfying their stress and exhaustion after a long day or from doing heavy jobs.

Taste would be a choice just like chips, there are sweat and salty types but mostly the sweet are more prefer in the realm of gummies since it is the most delicious and has more scent for different types of consumer.

Something I find underappreciated is your nose being uncongested. Having a uncongested nose lets you breathe freely without having you to breathe with your mouth. When was the last time your nose was so congested, it just felt like it was hard to breathe with, or that continuous snorting noises to try to unclog your nose. Doesn’t it feel good to breathe air through your nose freely? The air just seemingly just flows through out your nose, without any obstructions. Noses when congested is just making your life tough and dirty, but sometimes, it could prove useful if something smelt really bad or moldy.

An uncongested nose is like gold.

When you bike at night, it feels like you have an entire city by your own. Everything is empty, silent and peaceful. Biking at night makes you feel like you are racing with the wind.
