Jessica Watson was inspired to sail around the world because she wanted to be recognised. She didn't want to be forever known as 'Just a little girl' and wanted to prove she could achieve more. This determination is what drove her to over come her obstacles. She also kept on going and kept on trying. This pushed her through the storms that she encountered. She always believed in herself and stayed true to herself.

Kay Cottee was inspired to sail around the world because she was brought up with it. Since she was brought up in a sailing family, she always loved sailing. Because of this, she inspired herself to sail around the world solo. She is determined, which is what drove herself to continue to pursue that dream. She also doesn't hesitate. As soon as she found out that another US woman was planning to sail around the world, she stopped delaying her voyage and to get on the boat as soon as possible.

Jessica Watson was first inspired to sail solo when she was told a bedtime story about a solo sailor at 8 years old. She thought about it and realised that he was just a regular inspired man. Because of this, she thought about doing it herself too. She lived on a boat for most of her life so she definitely has her 'sea legs'. Her friends and family were also definitely a contributing factor.
