While bullying occurs in some capacity in schools everywhere, it seems to me this problem is especially prevalent here. Due to being a comparatively collective society, there can be a tendency for students to scold those who stand out. This problem also seems very difficult to deal with, as it is a cultural and possibly systemic problem. In the US, while bullying still occurs, there is an emphasis on intervention by peers. Along the development of countries and higher level education, gender equality is popular topic; some people think the problem is being solve slowly while some insist the condition is still serious. Japan is definitely one of the countries that face the same issue. On the other hand, Hong Kong as a region affected by both Chinese and Western culture, gender issue is nowhere near to solving as well. It will be really interesting to find out the similarities and differences between the two Asian places. If time allows, adding the US perspective and data could be fascinating.
