When she married Theodore Roosevelt and when he was elected president, she continued her work on behalf of all people. She advocated equal rights for women, African-Americans and Depression-era workers, bringing inspiration and attention to their causes. She did everything in her power to make sure that everyone was given equal rights.  In 1939 she defended an African-American singer named Marian Anderson, who was denied the use of the Constitutional hall. Eleanor  got Marian to perform on the Lincoln memorial instead, just so she could sing. Had she not fought for these rights, people might nit be a safe as they are now today. One of her famous quotes is; “Do what you feel in your heart to be right—for you’ll be criticized anyway.
