This week I am trying to find information about what happened in World War 2 , because before I can start talking about “ What if America didn’t win World War 2” we need to find the information on how America won World War 2. I am just retracing, working backwards to then go forwards about my question, it will make sense later. I went to the library and found some books about World War 2 in Europe: “America goes to war” and in the Pacific Ocean: “Remember Pearl Harbor”. For the book talking about how. I basically want to prove to everybody, what I want to get out of this genius hour is to not take the things that we have now for granted. If we live in a world where we would be held down by people, being controlled by others and never getting a say in anything because they know whats best for you is kind of annoying. In this world we live in we get a say in anything we do , we get to live how we want to live, sure we might get disagreeable looks but we don't care about that. I am just glad to see that we can live in a world where there is freedom of speech (in most parts of the world) and we can speak our mind.

This week I was reading about what had happened in Pearl Harbor and, I thought that was a good place to start at with this project. I had gone to this website called History.com and it gave me a lot of insight on what happened in Pearl Harbor. It even had videos about it; it said that on December 7, 1941 a hundred Japanese fighter planes had attacked the naval base at Pearl Harbor near the Honolulu, Hawaii. It had lasted just two hours; the Japanese had managed to destroy nearly twenty American naval vessels including eight enormous battleships, and more than three hundred planes. More than two thousand soldiers and sailors died in that attack, and another one thousand was wounded. Day after the assault president Franklin D. Roosevelt, had asked congress to declare war on Japan, the congress had approved the presidents declaration and three days later Japanese allies; Germany, and Italy had declared war on the United States.

This was just a brief overview of what had happened in Pearl Harbor, and why America had joined the war. What the Japanese had doing was leading up/ had lead up to the attack on Pearl Harbor, for the fact that the Japanese government believed that the only way to solve the economic and demographic problems was to expand into its neighbor’s territory and take over its import market. This had lead up to the war declaration on China in 1937, America had responded by importing goods. Without the access to essential supplies like oil, japan would have to rein its expansionism. But all of this just gave Japan the courage to move and go on with its expansion.

This would but what I would talk about during my presentation and I would be presenting a slideshow to show all my work for it.

Sense last week we talked about what had happened in Pearl Harbor I would like to talk about another topic I will address when presenting my slideshow would be about Hitler and Russia. I mean it did all start with Hitler’s invasion in Poland in 1939. 1.5 million Troops had invaded Poland all alongside the border that there Germans had territory of. They had bombed Polish airfields, and German warships and U-boats attacked polish naval forces in the Baltic Sea. Hitler had said he claimed the invasion as a massive defensive action, but Britain and France were not convinced, and on September 3 they had declared war on Germany initiating World War 2.

Hitler thought that the German’s were “racially superior” Germany would conquer the territory of Poland and the native Slavs would be enslaved. German expansion would had happened in 1938, had then continued into Sudetenland and then Czechoslovakia in 1939. What Germany did next was to sign a nonaggression pact with the Soviet Union, so that they wouldn’t come to Poland’s aide and they would just split Poland between them.

On this week I was trying to find the alternate ending of what would have happened if America hadn’t win world war 2, what I found in the website that was talking about the alternative outcomes of world war 2, and if Nazi Germany had won. Ultimately, it was only Hitler’s dual blunders of first invading the Soviet Union and then declaring war on the United States that led to his downfall. The citizens of the Soviet Union in particular were the ones that suffered the most for Hitler’s ambitions and for the allies’ victory. I did some more digging up and learned about a book that was turned into an amazon tv show called “The man in the high castle” the book was written by Philip k. Dick in 1962. It obviously was talking about an alternate ending of Germany winning the war and not America. I would recommend reading the book if you like history and learning about different endings in history.

This week I had read a little bit of the Philip k. Dick book called, “The Man In The High Castle” and sense I had already told you about that last week I started working on my presentation and my presentation is of a map of the world and how it would be divided up when Germany had won the war. When I found the map it was the map from the book, and I thought that would be good to use it for my presentation, because this book gives a really good representation of how we would be if America didn’t win World War 2. When I saw the map it made me see how different the world split be how Germany and japan would basically split everything obviously Germany would have more than japan. to think that we wouldn't win the war is kind of weird, I mean think about it to live in a world where we wouldn't have the amount of freedom that we have today. if Germany actually had one we would have been ruled by a dictator, people would try to rebel, but they will be defeated badly and mostly likely executed, I really don't want to live in that type of world.

This week I am just going to talk about how my presentation is going to be, my presentation is very simple to do it is a map of the world, but here is the twist instead of the map being of the world today it is of the world of if Germany won the war when making the map I saw how Germany and japan had split up the world for themselves and I see how Germany has more of the nation’s then japan sense they were the ones that did lead the war. When I saw how America was I as so shocked, you know how America is like north and South America, well there was no more of that it was only just a little piece of land in what used to be North America. To know that one loss can basically change the future for us, where we are today we wouldn’t even be do the pledges at school no more. Our national anthem would be different for what it is now, to just imagine that is kind of crazy, but luckily it is not like that and we have North and South America while Germany and japan are on the other side keeping to themselves.

This is the last week before we have to turn in everything so I am just going to go over everything that I have talked about through this week. We had re-learned some information about what had happened in Pearl Harbor, and about the Japanese attacking the US, how it was a surprise attack and the Japanese have been working together with Germany when Germany invaded Poland and saying it was a defensive maneuver but it really wasn’t. When doing this major grade I had learned so much about the history of World War 2 and some background about it. To think that power meant so much to one person that they have to rule it all had shocked me. Doing this assignment made me learned that things happen for a reason and we shouldn’t take the freedom that we have today for granted because a lot of people around the world don’t have the freedom that us Americans have. I know I have said this before, but to live in a world wear we barely have any freedom to speak I don’t think I want to live in that world at all if it means giving up our rights of; petition, religion, freedom, etc.
