Throughout the story Starr received a lot of threats from Khalil's case. In the beginning of the book, when she was talking to the officers about what had happen, she was getting nervous that she didn't get to say everything. Since she didn't get the whole story out, people started blaming her, judging her etc. She was scared to tell her own boyfriend about what had happened with Khalil's case. She kept hiding things from everyone to the point where it was like she was having a man vs self. Starr couldn't handle all the pressure that was given and I would have reacted in a similar way. What I would have done that she didn't is, I would've told at least my family how I was feeling so I would have some support on my side. Other then that, I also would have stayed quiet just like Starr.

I would've done the same thing that Starr did because I understand how she feels considering her nervous feelings and why she didn't tell anybody what she was going through. If it was me, all the threats would've been very overwhelming and I as well would've been scared to tell anybody, even my own family. She was having mixed feelings about if she should speak up or not, even though she ended up doing it knowing it was the right thing to do. She was forced to hide important things from her loved ones, like her boyfriend and friends, because she was afraid, but they ended up supporting her.

This was one of the main questions that we had to discuss in The Hate You Give. Starr was jumping from problems to problems with the shooting case. She was overwhelmed by all the pressure she was getting from her family, his family, friends and others. She is an innocent, nice, sweet little girl. Everyone loved her until that night, people started to judge by just looking at her. We had to discuss on how we would have felt if we were in her place. In the beginning of the book we talked about how it's so easy to just admit about what happened it as we kept reading we got more information which was interesting because we got to know a whole different side of Starr.

In my defense I would have told my parents. In the end she really only has her family so might as well tell the truth about how you feel . At least you get some pressure off your shoulder.

If I was in the situation of Starr I think I would have publically addressed the threats and asked that whoever was sending the threats. Then if the threats didn’t stop then I would try to get some type of protection from some type of authority. Starr’s dad did end up getting protection from the Cedar Gang.

I think that I would’ve also been scared to tell my boyfriend since he is considered more upper class. I would be afraid that he would have viewed me differently. Dealing with my family I know they would have my back so I wouldn’t be scared to tell them about what’s going on. Plus I think telling Lisa and Maverick is good so they can know what’s going on
